I have installed a CVP jet tuner kit, Hooker Header Troublemaker exhaust, and a Arlen Ness stage 1 air cleaner. The motorcycle runs good but I notice some load backfire during the deceleration after gasing it at high R's or agressive down shifting (very annoying). Also, while adjusting the idle mixture strew the idle did not change or studder to indicate a lean or rich condition. However the engine runs best at the recommended sweet spot around 2-2 1/8 turns out. What bothers me is that the kit came with (2) sets of jets. So now I think I need to purchase another size up inorder to see if this will correct the issue. Has anyone had the same problem? I read up on a lot of threads and they say to first check for exhaust or intake leaks. So I checked the exhaust gasket and even replaced them and that did not make a difference. As for the intake, I find it hard to be an issue considering there is no way to adjust the carb because of the carb mounts. I also checked the color of the plugs and the front plug shows a light whitish beige and the back looks a little darker. I believe to be more accurate I would need to replace them with new ones. I bottom line is that it runs great at lower RPM's and the only problem at highs RPM's is the load backfiring. Someone please let me resolve this issues.
    Thanks,
    Dave

Ken said it sounds like exhaust reversion since its happening on decel. He is going to send me a 200 and 205 main that I can try.

I'd be curious about how that works out. If you're popping on decel, the throttle is closed and your on the low speed jet not the main... if I understood the problem right... and I'm not really sure that I understood his wording

The bike runs great during low accel. I took it on a few poker runs and as long as I do not get on it hard or decel hard it does not back fire. So I believe that going up a size on the main jet will fix it. I will keep you posted once I change them out.
    Thanks,
    Dave

Looking at those pipes, now I know its reversion. That style of pipe is notorious for decel popping problems. These pipes are too short, large diameter, and do not have the steps built into the head pipe section to facilitate proper scavenging or prevention of reversion. Along with the different jets I sent I'd also try a set of AR cones (aka Torque cones) installed between the pipe flanges and exhaust ports. You'd be surprised how well they work.

    BTW, nice looking Deuce!

The Pipes are Hooker Header Troublemakers and they are a very good exhaust system. They are "stepped" with "internal ceramic" and they also have "baffles". I spoke to the Hooker Tech support and they said "the pipes should not be causing any backfiring unless they are leaking". Which the first thing I checked was for exhaust leaks. I replaced the gaskets and they seem to be fine. It is very hard to tell if they have any leaks. I think the main jet could still be an issue. Any idea?

And you believe a Hooker tech is really going to admit that the pipes are too short, the steps are not correct and the diameter is too large for the displacement of the engine?

Nice to see somethings never change when it comes to exhaust manufacturers....
