At East Carolina University this weekend. (Joshbob, your end of the state) My daughter is having her tests and audition for admittance to ECU School of Music.

I don't know squat about this, but she wants it bad so we are here doing all we can.

If its the kind of thing you do, give her the power of your thoughts... she is nervous as heck.

Has been invited to two colleges for auditions... have no idea if she has the talent or not, just want it for her!!!

MC, Don't know much about ECU's school of music. Usually, you have to be fairly proficient at playing some musical instrument or singing and have at least a rudimentary knowledge of music. Those are the usual requirements. What instrument does she play?

My best to her and will "send thoughts" her way.

She plays flute, but this is vocal for her. Been taking voice training a while now. She will be singing one song in English and one in another language. Test is sight read song and music theory. She has been taking music theory in high school and piano lessons. All in all about a year+ of prep. Because I don't know alot about music, I don't know if she just sounds good to me.

Other school required tape and then come by invite... she did get invited.

In NC there are two schools in the University of NC system that are suppose to have very good schools. One is ECU and the other is Appalachian State University.

I think she will be fine. I started my studies in music back in the early 60s, but never attended a university. Instead, I took a 2 year correspondance course with the Berklee School of Music (as it was known then), got my "degree", and went on from there.
Went on to what? Playing over 20 years in bar bands and later as a solo act. Never amounted to much in the normal world view, but it was great playing with all those musicians and doing some recording as well.
Since she has had training, I have no doubt she will pass with flying colors! She should have no distractions or worries; only needs to concentrate all her mind and heart into the music and let the cards fall where they may.

Don't know about that not amount to much. Based on what I have seen and heard on these threads, I expect you have done OK!

Hell of a day. Audition went well, when she came out smile on her face, knew she felt good about it. Went to lunch, she left pocketbook in restroom maybe 5 min. Stolen with cell phone, license, credit card, etc. Spent afternoon stopping cc, canceling phone. Talked to mall security across street from lunch, cause they spent money within 15 minutes of stealing. Time on phone with bank and Verizon. Made it to Raleigh before they called and had found wallet with license a and school ID, and all insurance cards. So dropped wife and daughter off, turned around drove back, picked up stuff then back to Raleigh. Spending night here. Sometimes being a Dad is a hell of a job!!!

MC, sorry to hear about the wallet issues. I had mine stolen one time off my motorcycle seat. Sat it down and when I turned back it was gone. What a hassel canceling things, getting new cards, drivers license going to to the bank to change account numbers.

Joshbob, I went to a Winery at a mall last night and listened to a local artist sing and play his electric guitar. Man he was good. He had CD's he was selling so bought one and played it all day on the bike during the big Toy Run. You guys are special in your abilities and have provided a lot of great music. :)

No offense Josh but this picture of you looks like Captain Kangaroo! (Gosh, maybe that kids show from the early 60's wasn't available to your area?! It was a good wholesome show anyway)

Captain Kangaroo? Ha-ha-ha!! Well, I consider it a compliment, after all, after Howdy Doody & Buffalo Bob, the Captain ranks next on my "A list" of good, clean shows for kids. Mac the wife sez it must be the haircut, or lack thereof. Like Cowboy says, he was a lot bigger, too!

It's a real drag having stuff stolen like that. There's always somebody looking to take advantage of anothers misfortune . . . glad you guys at least got some of the important stuff back. When will your daughter know if she "passed"?

    Josh!

BTW: Bob Keeshan was the original Clarabell the clown on Howdy Doody. He lived a long life here on Long Island.

Sorry to hear about the trials of a Dad that you went thru today. I always try to dwell on the fact that good things happen from the bad. I hope your daughter made the grade!

Thanks guys... yea, she if worth every bit of it. Getting the license and insurance cards and school id was a help. She got a new smart phone out of it.

Will know in next two weeks if she is accepted. Whoever stole it only spent $50 before I got card stopped and we will get that back. In big picture not the end of the world and good lesson for her.

She plays the flute and sings. Little piano and wants a guitar for Christmas. She wants to go into Music Education, so that will be mostly vocals and piano. She likes working with kids. Actually works at a women's gym after school, looks after kids for women working out.

Got two daughters, older one was a hell of an athlete. Could not carry a tune in a bucket. The younger one is artistic and musical. Amazing how different, but they are very close. Our family is very close... my girls and wife are everything to me, although wife says my bike is obviously a third child!!
