So, if I understand your problem, the bike ran fine for the first 7,000 miles, backfired and now runs like crap? Now your shop can't figure out the problem, but decides that the engine design is flawed?

It sounds like your shop is not trustworthy. Find another shop to take it to (if it isn't under warranty) or get with the management of the shop and express your dissatisfaction. with their lameness. If you know any local riders that know more about bikes than you do, ask one to go with you to the shop.

Assuming you purchased the bike new, you got a 2 yr. warrenty. If that's the case you need to get in touch with the motor co. rep for your area. You're getting screwed big time.

Down here by me, if you had it done at the dealer, when new, the dealer will take care of it. If you got to go to another dealer you may run into a problem.

You 'should' be taken care of by the dealer who did the mods, I would think. If they can't fix your troubles ask them who the Regional manager is or what recourse you have to escalate your concerns to. I had a small issue with the mounting brackets for the fairing on my street glide(breaking). The dealer I bought the bike from said he couldn't help me, but when asked he gave me the number to call. I never got satisfaction but I got to vent. P.S. the newer bikes have redesigned mounting brackets. Pretty sheety that they were never re-called

They will know right away about pipes, cams, etc. and not honor the warranty. Can't blame them for that, but you can fix this problem fairly simple.

The problem is the f.i. is still pumping fuel on fully-closed-throttle decel. Nothing to do with motor design or any other lame excuse they offered. They won't fix it because of your mods.

You need to spend a little more money for a fuel tuner now. Almost any brand will do, but a less expensive one is the V&H FuelPak (about $200). After you plug it into the e.c.m.,make all the necessary settings (V&H provides a sheet of settings for your pipes, air cleaner, etc.), go for a ride and the e.c.m. will learn the new codes right away.

I have this set up on my FLHX and it runs sweet--no pops, better throttle response. Zippers T-Max tuner is probably the best system, but also the most expensive ($1,000).
