Sorry if this is repetitive. Here's what I have:
    06 Road King Custom
V/H true dual changed with Rhinehart Slip On's
    Stage 1 air filter
    PowerCommander III
    11K miles
Everything was fine for a while. Then started noticing more popping on deceleration and a hic up while starting off at a red light.
Could have been bad gas but it's been several tanks. It really sounds different after it gets hot.
Tonight I noticed that my left exhaust was shaking and vibrating more than the right. It looks like the rubber mount for the pipe has worn out.
However, I was wondering if now I might have an exhaust leak on the left exhaust.
    1. Am I on the right track?
    2. What is the best way to check for exhaust leak without taking it to someone else?

    Won't ya please hep me?

    Buddy

what chuck said and as you mentioned though your exaust was a shakin caused by a worn out mount that would be hint to that as a culprit you also stated new exaust did you change the header pipes or just the slip ons? so for 7-10 bucks you can pick up a set of SE gaskets, loosen up your pipes and replace the gaskets then tighten them back to spec,(your manuel will explain the procedure). about 30 min later you can see if that fixed it :D also replace the mount while your at.... it see it's two fold , keep us informed

the SE(screaming eagle) gasket there talking about go in the head where your pipe fits , it's best to change them with out the slip-on's on the bike

Yes, headpipe to muffler will definetly cause decel popping, I use a little silicone and slide them together, you say your exhaust is loose on the hanger so I bet that is your issue, it will also cause decel popping when the gasket between the head and headpipe leak but that is usually more noticeable, Todd

Well....Now I have run a couple of tanks of gas thru it and it isn't popping as bad. I checked for exhaust leaks at the heads with soapy water and didn't find any bubbles. I found the heat shield on the left side had a couple of loose connectors which was probably making some of the lifter ping noise:banghead: I thought I was hearing. Then I found that the nut had backed off and was gone off of the exhaust hanger bracket at the frame. Then I snugged both exhaust TORCA clamps where the slip ons connect. So far, everything is back to normal. AMAZING :witsend: what you can find when you finally stop riding long enough to look around. Thanks for all of the help. Once again ya'll have steered me in the right direction.

Its nice to get on and ride, but it's always a good Idea to look around with one eye before every ride and with both eyes at least every couple hundred miles along with the regular maint. intervals. and after any repairs are done you need to pay extra attention for a while to that area.

    Your correct...IronHorse.
I've taken it in for the scheduled mileage maintenance (cuz I don't know what I'm doing yet) but you can't take for granted that everything was checked nor put back together correctly. It's only been 2500 miles since it was in the shop and the nut is gone from main exhaust bracket. It doesn't hurt to start the bike and step back to see what's shakin'
    Thanks again guys

I also tried the silicone first, and used the cooper high temp found at local hardware store. It helped but I only put it in the taper slots in the mufflers where the clamps go, didn't take them off. If used I'd recommend the high temp silicone.
