I ordered V&H Longshots and I was wondering can I put them then take to the dealer to have the carb work done? Or will it run so bad I want be able to get it there? They charge an arm and a leg so I would like to do what I can for myself.
    Thanks for any help.

Should run fine, are you changing the air filter to the SE or ness setup?

You won't need a ton of carb work it may need to be bumped one size on the pilot jet and have the air mix screw adjusted.

SE Air Filter and Ness Air Filter, about the same....Ness WAY less expensive. CD has them at a great price here on Direct Parts. If I recall back when I was looking, the SE was running something like 120, Ness was running 90 or so.... you would have to recheck to make sure.

If you change the pipes and run the stock cleaner, you can get away without the carb rejet. Once you change that air filter, you will have to rejet or you'll be lean.

    Carb re-jet

No guarantee on not needing to rejet with pipes-only change. My softail had an exhaust change but nothing more when I got it. It ran extremely lean, took forever to warm up and would simply not idle long without dying. Carb tweaking helped but would not correct completely. I went to a K&N filter and rejetted at the same time... pulls like a John Deer now.

After reading as much info as I could find and having a similar chance to adjust my own, here is what worked well on my stock 05 FLHTC with SE air box and Hooker adjustable slip ons.

2 washers shim up the stock needle, to richen up the off idel to mid-range, stopped that annouying popping when accelerating from idle. Polish the slide up with steel wool, helped improve throttle responce. Change the pilot jet to a 46, 1 size bigger then stock, remove the plug and re-adjust the idle air screw 2.5 out to start. I left the main jet stock, mine is 190 and pulls good at WOT.

This really woke mine up with an avg of 42MPG and the best part is the total cost was almost 30 cents :D .

    Good luck,
    Cracker
