I am checking on the possibility of having our ISP continue to leave this board up as Biketalk.com if anyone is interested in running it. I would hate to see this thing die off as it is a great place for information and good conversation. I can continue to contribute with tech posts and I would convey copyrights to it and our articles. one advantage could be allowing Google to run ads as it can pay for the site itself as could other businesses as sponsors. This is how V-Twin has become so large and has many sponsors.

All it would take is someone willing to take on the challenge. It is a fun thing to do and was one of the more rewarding parts of our business.

I don't really know what it would entail. If we can keep the technical folks on board to answer questions, I would be willing to help run it. I'm not sure how much time it would require or other resources I would have to contribute. Shoot me a PM with some details. Maybe this is something that we can keep together with a team rather than just one individual.

Worse case scenerio is that we try and fail. We've already failed if we don't at least consider the options.

I've used this forum many times to find answers to my questions. It has proven to be a valuable tool. I would hate to see it go away. I've been to other boards too and they simply don't compare to this one.

Anyone else willing to bite a piece out of this pie?

Sorry for not replying sooner been a little busy.

The domain name www.biketalk.com is not available but, www.bike-talk.com is. Since the www.directparts.com site is going away, the domain name will need to change. But, our host will leave a redirect to the new domain. Registering a domain is cheap as is hosting and can be done locally. I will convey all rights to the actual forum and posts etc.

What V-Twin has done is to go to a simple membership scheme and has sponsors like us and Google ads.

Okay, here is the hosting information.

    1. buy a domain name as it cannot be the same as it is now. www.bike-talk.com is available and from www.godaddy.com is $8.95 a year.

    2. www.zerolag.com will host it for $15.00 / month and can leave a link active to bounce it to the new domain name www.bike-talk.com.

That's pretty cheap and if some of you can get together and pitch in you could keep this thing going strong.

Since we are shutting down the phones and email addresses, please post your questions here.

I really hope some of you will step up to the plate and keep this forum alive.

I'd be willing to kick in a few bucks every couple of months to help off set the cost to who ever picks it up.

CD, would having advertisers on board pay for the cost of hosting it?

Sure, V-Twin is huge and a good part of it is paid for by sponsors. A couple of sponsors like V-Twin has can more then pay for it.
