I just installed drag pipes on my 97 sportster 1200. I love the sound but they are a little louder than I expected. If I by a set of baffles for them, how much will the sound change? Thanks.

Depends on the brand of pipes you put on - Baffles come in two styles - Hard metal with slotted or round holes and fiber packed. Either way it would be a good idea to baffle a little to avoid losing any HP. Loud isn't always the best way to increase HP - but it sure do get the attention of the LEO's.

I believe they are made by Ultima. I looked on line and I can get the slotted baffles in 4" or 8" lengths. I don't want to drop the sound to much.

Depending on price - I'd go for the 4" baffles - then when ya get the time (and bread" have a DYNO run to make sure ya got the sound and "performance" ya want.
Might also think about throwin a Stage 1 upgrade on the bike; for the money ya can't go wrong.

Yes you need to run some baffles in them , I would go the 4in for back presure & it wont hurt your sound to much . they''l just tone it down a little but you will notice the difference in your power range
