Just a heads up to anybody planning to run the DRAGON or travel thru that area.
The Dragon website has reported a lot of landslides due to the heavy amount of bad weather this winter. So before you go check out the road conditions for the area.
You can find out thru the TN DOT or the NC DOT websites and you could also check out the Dragon website.

Wow, pretty impressive video. That will take a few days to clear up the debris.

According to TDOT they said about 2 months to get it all cleared away. I'm just glad nobody was under that when it came down.

I’ve seen a few small slides but nothing like that. On most of the major highways in Colorado they are hanging wire mats on the steep grades to help contain the rocks when we have a slide. It seems to help keep rocks of the roadway, but still makes a mess to clean up.

Just talked to my BIL today and he told me that there was another rock slide in that area.
So if your planning to ride down that way make sure you check on road conditions before you go.

Ride Safe and keep it upright

update on the slides - Tenn dot posted on there web site that the DRAGON will be closed until the end of july. The slide is two miles west of the dam, also the foothill parkway is closed but didn't get any info on how long. TDOT said that the heavy rains were the cause.
I40 is also closed to traffic until about 4/30/10 also due to a rock slide.
Anybody going to Maggie Valley or Cherokee will have to go to Gatlinburg and run 441 thru the park to get there.
Probably be a good idea to check your dot sites before you take off.
Construction project are all over eastern Tenn. also especially around Pigeon Forge and Seiversville -
So ride safe and arrive alive. :)
