Draining your gas

    is there some special way to do this? I thought you could just pull the gas line and turn the gas on and it would come out? well I did just that and nothing, I took off the main line, overflow so the only thing left was the petcock. I finally just unscrewed the petcock and put a funnle under it to the gas can. still made a big mess, oh I did take the gas cap off.

    If you have a vac operated petcock it won't drain without a vac pressure on the petcock.

    A pingle is gravity operated and will flow without a vac.

    That is going to be my guess too. About 23 Inch Pounds of Vacuum to open that silly valve. Although it is a good thing that you don't have to turn your gas on and off all the time when stopped. I use a piece of garden hose and go old school siphon from the fill :D

    I usually connect a chain to the rear wheel and hoist the bike up, flip i upside down and let it drain....

    Other choice is to pull the crossover and drain from there, put a long hose on the end of the tank you pulled the crossover off, and a little trick is to put the end of a dissassembled ball point pen in another hose, then shove the other end of the pen in the hose on the tank, be sure you have the "other ends" of the drain hoses in the gas can.. Once you pull it off be ready to connect.

    YOu can clamp off the crossover with some small vice grips so you have time to connect the drain hoses.

    last time I just pulled the tank and turned it upside down, I like the siphon idea, but I was too lazy to pull the tank and just unscrewed the petcock and put a funnle under it, got a little messy on the garage floor, only caught half the gas:roflmao: good thing I'm moving:roflmao:

    Why not just go get a gas siphon hose from Harbor Freight or auto store. Much simpler than turning tank upside down or anything else.

    Cause then you don't get the taste of gas in your mouth or burp it up for 3 days :roflmao: . Mostlikely you have the more healthy idea LOL, but hey I am CHEAP. Even the siphon don't get all of it and I still pull the tank and shake the sh.... Gas out of it LOL. Got to do that soon to shoot new paint on mine. Changing colors yet again, been on there a year though so it is old anyway. Got to love those rattle can specials :D .

    You must have a vacuum operated petcock,you could get a hand vacuum pump..you can get them at automotive stores..don't think there that expensive...I have one...Good luck

    yes, the joy of rattlecan, that's why I didn't want to make a mess, too late now, I just might have to redo the paintjob if it starts pealing:roflmao: I had to drain the fluids to ship it, I didn't do the tranny, don't think they can check it, if they do anyway, won't be like a guy standing over me watching what I put in my container. I just hope I don't have to pull the front end off to make everything fit.
