Its been awhile since I did something like this, actually in 30 years of riding this is the 5th time. The first time was on my first Harley a '73 Sportster back in the 80's. I pulled into a parking lot got off the bike and took about 5 steps before the bike just fell over. I hadn't kicked the stand out all the way and it didn't lock in place. The second time was last year on my '90 Ultra, I pulled into my parking stall and let the bike lean over onto the stand only it just kept going...the idiot operator forgot to put the stand down!! :banghead: The third and fourth time were on the the same bike, my foot slipped on some loose gravel as I came to a stop (A good argument for not wearing slippers while riding). Today I was coming to an intersection where the lane in front of me split into two lanes one to turn left the other to go straight. Just as I entered the left lane I realized I wanted to go straight and started to turn back into that lane but the cars in that lane had already stopped due to a red light and I had to hit the brakes loosing my forward momentum and balance by the time I got my foot down to balance the bike it was too late and my foot hit the ground behind me and down I went. Other than a couple of real small pits on the crash bars no damage...except to my pride. Hopefully I'm done dropping bikes for now...lol

    Aloha...Mike

there is only 2 kinds of riders..Those who've dropped they're bikes and those who're gonna. We need those little reminders every once in a while(keeps us on our toes,so to speak). OK here's a TEST: Who out there has NEVER dropped they're bike?

Hey I'm all in favor of the carbon fiber Harley....you would have to be Bill Gates in order to be able to afford it, but still....

Drop a bike? heck, I've done that. What I couldn't help you with was to answer your question on who has never dropped their bike and it's funny, the times that you probably should have dropped it. eg, riding in a white out where you can't pull over because there's no shoulder on the road or getting caught out in freezing rain and there by the grace of God you keep the thing up on the rubber and then you wind up forgetting to put the jiffy stand down and blammo!..and it didn't get scratched..the floorboards took care of that.;)

That's exactly what I'm talkin about. Those little brain farts that keep us humble. Hopefully they keep us from doin the stupid stuff. Don't ya feel really good when you get through a really heavy downpour without incident?

yep and there's been time where it's been just a feeling of utter relief. that ride up in the mountain pass in the whiteout was one of the worst experiences I've had... short of crashing.

Current bike, day I brought it home... pulled in garage, park it along the wall, then pull cars in. So, got off admiring it... then decided I had not pull it far enough to the left to leave room to access steps. Got back on and pulled up maybe 8" to 10". That was enough to move the jiffy stand a bit, got off and it immediately started to fall. Only reason it did not go all the way down... was wife's car and ME in the way. So there I was pinned against the car with bike in my lap saying :wtf:. Managed to reach down and horse it up.. thought what a DA I am!!:gah: But, it happens! Picture shows where it sits.

that looks like a pretty nice slab of stone that bike is sitting on. Our countertops in the kitchen don't look that nice.

I've not dropped it in a few years. I'd tell ya when, but that last concussion kinda makes it too fuzzy to remember! At least I know where it was (just outside Washington, CA, in the Sierras).
