Dunlop American Elites

    Just for information:
    Not long ago I replaced my D401 1.50x18 rear and D402 MT90 front with Dunlop American Elites front and rear on my 2005 Fatboy. As I posted back then I absolutely loved the handling in the turns and twisties. The Fatboy seemed to lean into the corners faster and hold the line better. I recently did a 900+ freeway stint at 75-85 mph. The straight line stability suffers a bunch. The bike is very twitchy and disconcerting Nothing dangerous just requires more attention than the stock specified tires. If I were planning a bunch of freeway riding I'd have to go back to Harley's recommended tires. Maybe there is something to the MoCo warning about tires.

    It's the profile of the tires, the new tires for HD have a more rounded shape which allows better handling, the old D402 series have a flat portion,

    The old D402's did provide more straight line stability due to the flat vs rounded profile. Consequently the d402 wore fast in the center and cornered like crap.

    It's just getting used to them I changed my heritage from D402's to Avon Venoms before the new American Elites, same thing, bike handled like a sport bike compared to the old D402 tires.
