I have 2 bikes. One road king 2001 and a Dyna 96 conv..Both of them are ok,but I do have a question about, Dyna,s "relenti":
....When in very low rotation, I can not get the "kabum....kabum...kabum..."
sound. I am trying to adjust the pistons sparks and commanding ignition coil,
to get it...but when is very low, about 300/500 rpms, I can not get the two cylinders working. I get power going to the spark-plugs, but seams to me, that, only one is working!!!
The ignition coil, BY DYNATEK- Glendora - in California is a DC-6-3 and is good, I think.
In high rotation, both cylinders work!!
In low rotation, seams that I can not get the sound, that make our bikes famous"....kabum....kabum....kabum....kabum!!!!
If I get power from the coil, thru the cord to the spark plug, why ,in low rotation, I don,t get the sound?
Please, help!!! Is driving me nuts....
Or, with the dyna 95/96, that does not happen??

John, if your talking about the famous potato-potato-potato sound, STOP.
You will never get the potato sound from the evo or twinky, you will do nothing but damage your motor by idling so low trying to achieve the famous sound.

I find it quite funny when guys try and idle their motors so low to imitate the sound, I just got to smile and shake my head. You can get ‘close’ by having an open exhaust (drag pipes ect.), large cams and idling low, but, your damaging your motor by doing so.

The reason why you can’t get the sound is because it was the inherent design of the pre-evo heads, (shovels, pans, knuckles). Just ride your cycle and enjoy the fact you have an modern bike. The next time you see someone making the same mistake, you can shake your head and smile and then enlighten them… :D

    Good luck.

killer b is correct, dont ruin a perfectly good engine trying to get the "old sound". i am fortunate enough to have an old pan that i can fire up and ride to get that sound, from time to time.........i live with the sound from my 06....

    I forgot about drag pipes....Daaaaahhh!!!

Ok...OK....and thanks a lot, Killer B, by calling my attention for those facts.
First not to be a dummy or smart ass, and try to ride clean as suppose to.
I ride since age of 17 and, to be very honest, as always, the potato sound lived with me for a while.
The road king only changed the original pipes for the thunder heathers, and runs good, since I got it!! The 96dyna, had that close sound because I got streight pipes when I bought it, and changed carburation. Was it!!!
....BUT IN PORTUGAL, these guys want to put it on a low idling, and could do it, ALSO, because I had to install the original stock pipes, to pass the DCB,s test here, so I get the portuguese plates!! After the sound test, I will put the old ones back!!
Also this tech(?) wants to go low as 300rpms. I want at least 500...
What is the right idling for the Dyna??
Thanks a lot for your time and respect.

a thousand RPM. I wouldn't go less than that. I had a hot rod 1996 Dyna and set the idle at 1000. as far as I know EVOs don't like being idled down to low RPM's for the sound. I don't know much about shovels and such but the EVO has a low pressure oil system...if you don't idle at a decent level you are not going to get the oil out circulating in your motor..just my take on it.
