Dear all, this is my first post - I have searched the forums for my problem, and altough I found relevent threads regarding efi idle speed, I didnt want to start up these old threads.

    Here´s my bike:
I have a softail 2004 with se-slipons, se 211 cams, wiseco 1550 pistons, a correctly mapped powercommander, and the cylinderheads are slightly ported by a harley engine company. This bike has EFI.

    Here´s my problem:
Yesterday the idle speed disappeared. Cant get it back. Tried the scanalyzer - it was set on 1290 rpm:s - the highest possible.

Altough I had problems with the idle before (probably because the se 211 cams overlap pretty much) the idle-problems went away when I installed the big bore (probably due to higher compression).

Now I have nada. I checked the little valve in the intake, just before the throttel..it seemde to move fine, no problem there. I have no air-leeks behind the throttel.

Now my question is: what´s wrong and what should I check?

Can I adjust the idle with the idlescrew, or will this make my powercommander-map to act as if it was in a new register?

Can I set the throttelposition in the powercommander to a lower value and still use my map, or will I have to pay huge amounts of money to re-map it again? The purpose with this would be to stretch the powercommanders array, so it spans over a bigger register (by extending it in the lower throttel area) so that maybe I can richen the fuel at idle speed or something. Just a thought.

What could the source or error be?

    Kind regards
    A

Idle disappeared as in won't idle? Won't start and idle? Please be more specific.

    Did you check the TPS?

Don't use the screw! Delphi's have electronic control of idle RPM and if it is set at 1290, there is an external problem. The TPS can be out of whack, an intake leak can cause it, not setting the PC idle to match the computers idle and going to 100% can cause weird stuff. Disconnect the PC and see if it idles.

Yes. NO idle. WONT idle. Just dies. RPM zero. Engine stops.

What is a TPS? Something with voltage, right? How and what/where to check?

Ok. Will leave to my harley dealer next week.

The TPS is the Throttle Position Sensor. It tells the ECU what position the throttle is in. They can get dirty and drift out of adjustment over time.

The best tool you can buy is the service and parts manuals. They are important to do any service and with an EFI bike an absolute must have IMHO.

Ok, will take the bike to the dealer next week.
It´s a 04, but almost new -that is I have not been running many miles at all with it. During the re-build (installment of se211 cams and later big bore-kit) the efi was never touched. So I dont want to suspect that the EFI has an error somewhere. Of course one never knows.

My guess is anyway that since the idle always has flucuated with the se-211 cams, this could be the very problem or atleast part of it. Even with 1550 and high compression, the idle has been a bit unstable to say the least. I should write HD and tell them: se-211 simply wont work. Even with the PC tuned up max in the 0 % throttel areas / lowest rpm:s, and with the ignition set to max (max before top dead center) the engine sometimes stops..like HD would care, but still ;) Anyway: anyone thinking of installing 211 cams should re-think or be skilled with the EFI and possess the required tools for re-programming it, if there are any tools like this.

I just hope that my HD dealers mechanics-shop are skilled enough to fix the problem. My impression is that all these people do is talk and want to sell you racetuners that they cant configure properly anyway.

Lets say the EFI mainbox is corrupt, worst case scenario: are there any cheap alternatives to the original boxes?

Ah yeah, another question: What is usually the static compression on a tc88b 1550 bike with wiseco´s (in psi)? Standard heads.
