I have a 1999 twin cam, that I purchased about two years ago, in the middle of the winter,so I didn't get the chance to ride it. It had been Triked with a Champion kit and the same time had the cam bearings, cams followers and lifters replaced. It ran fine for a while, then every once in a while a lifter would bleed down and clatter bad. You can shut it off and restart it and it's fine. The oil pressure is fine and the oil has been changed. It acts like there is something plugging an oil gallery to a lifter.
As I understand it there is no clean out screen on the twin cam. Does anyone have an idea of how to go about repairing this thing. I am sure getting bummed out with it.
    Thanks,
    Bill

Sounds like lifter is unhappy to me. Do you think only one ? Have you taken an oil pressure reading? When the noise happens is it on start up or while motor running and at temp? Lifters and cam followers are the same thing. What do you run for oil and filter?

Could be just a weak lifter...oil filter is on the feed side so it's filtered before it gets to the lifters, you could take it apart and blow compressed air through the passage ways...

SNS sells travel limiters for the lifters, you could go that route or simply replace the lifters, it's not that bad of a job if you have the tools and skills.

How long ago was the engine work done
