Hello, I'm about to purchase a new fatboy lo, and I have a few questions. I want to change the exhaust as soon as I get it. I would like the dealership to replace the OME exhaust with a Vance and Hines big radius #(46029). Does the 02 sensors need to be recallabreated by a computer or will the bike do it itself. Also the bike is being shipped from the factory.. When the bike gets here does the dealership have to do that anyways...(Are they trying to charge me for double for something they are already going to have to do when the bike gets here) b/c im being charged 400 dollars for the set up of the bike. also I would like a OEM handlebar changed to the standard fatboy bars b/c they fit my riding style better (the lo's bars are shorter) so is that also something they are going to charge me double to do one time...(does the bike come from the factory with the bars on the bike or do they have to put them on b/c of shipping...also per the 400 set up charge..I just think for the 400 setup charge harley should setup and calibrate the bike to what you want on it..if you are getting it all done before it leaves the store, instead of charging you labor for something they are already doing. Does that make since to anyone else? Thanks you all for your time...

Yes it makes sense, but it probably won’t happen that way. Around here the set up fee is for setting up as a stock bike, meaning assembling the parts that need to be assembled and putting in fluids were they are needed. Just another way to get a few more dollars for the bike. :gah:

yup. i agree. the bike will be set up as stock. get with the salesman, times are tough. ask him to install the stuff you want. act as if it could be a deal breaker.....most of the time they will sway your way.......maybe 50/75% of what you want.........

I would try to do as chuck said make them deal your way , not there's, times are hard at most dealers , & like you said they have to do it anyway so split the difference with them

I wouldn't pay setup fee, HD pays the dealer to uncrate and
    setup the bike...

JMO, it's a profit add on fee.

The exhaust is on the bike, so are the bars
so to put on what you want they have to remove the
stock system and put on your new stuff.

It should be tuned especially if you put on a Se air filter
    and the pipes....

It might be fine with the pipes but it comes lean from the factory for
epa, so you'll need to pay attention to heat and running...

I'd negotiate that the $400 includes putting on the pipes and bars,
especially if they sold them to you...

If not, walk out the door and tell them you'll find a dealer that will..

Chuck and Hotroadking said it right. The set up fee is what it is and the word today to make a sale is bargain, and bargain some more or go to a different dealer. Good luck with it and let us know.:)

    you control the deal...

there are dealers loaded with bikes in whses

IF you have the bucks and/or financing arranged
and it's a done deal, they know its gonna be sold unless
you balk, then balk, it's a deal breaker, tell them
you need to think about it, the $400 setup, the
labor for the bars and mufflers.

Tell the sales guy you'll have to go home to think about
what you want to do, that you like the bike, him, the deal
    but for these issues....

He'll either chase you down the street and call you off the hook
or if he doesn't then move on....

    where are you located,
