I know of no way to remove the blue once it starts. I always thought it was cool. Hot exhaust is what causes it.

The only way I know to stop it is to paint the ends of the inside of your pipes with heat resistant paint and bake them dry in the oven @ 350 IIRC. It's supposed to harden the paint enough to keep it from peeling off in the heat, and the paint is supposed to insulate the pipe so as not to turn blue. Some people swear by this others, swear against it. Good luck

2fast is right on this, I have done this to a few sets of pipes with great results, except, I never stuck them in any oven, always figured the motor would bake them enough. You do have to let them dry though. I guess it’s a little late now, so, on your next set give it a try.

P.S. there is something called blue-away, never tried it though, maybe someone who has tried will chime in...

ya got a couple of answers for trying to clean up the pipes...except to put covers on them to hide it. you ask why it happened. the reason the pipes turned blue is due to hot exhaust. this happens to most all the new harleys as they are tuned to run lean so they may meet the epa emissions law. ask the dealer about the "blue" on the pipes and if they will do anything about it under warranty. 50 miles is kind of quick for pipes to turn blue....especially if you were riding in acordance to the owners manual.....

The head pipes will always blue. That's why they have heat shields.
