I have a 2007 bonneville. The exhaust pipes have turned purple by the motor and then have yellow further on down them. Which is normal. only the exhaust pipe on the right side of the bike has yellow extending further on it then on the left pipe. Is that some kind of indication of something going wrong in the motor. One of the cylinders going wrong? any suggestions would be appreciated. fireitup

The purple actually sounds like bluing which is caused by a lean condition. When the fuel mixture becomes lean it causes the pipes to overheat (and overheating in general), especially where the pipes meet the heads. The chrome then turns blue. Correcting the fuel mixture will help stop problem from spreading... somewhat. Almost all pipes get a little bit of bluing unless they are designed to be "blue-proof", which usually involves double wall construction to shield the outer chrome. After you correct the condition causing the blues, there are products out there that remove the bluing from the pipes.

thank you for the advice. running lean is not good. and i was told the bluing was normal because of the emission controls on the bike. Only i see it is not. Thank you again. fireitup

Emissions controls cause the bike to be lean from the factory.

You need to richen up the fuel mix a bit, powercommander for EFI or rejet for carbs.

Regarding the color difference of the two pipes, not sure about the EFI control system on your Triumph, but most systems now let you tune the cylinders individuley. The inherient properties of a intake can have one cylinder running richer or leaner then the other. With a carb there was nothing that could be done, but with EFI should be able to "balance" the cylinders.

Hi Thank you for the advice. I have a mechanic here who works only on bristish bikes. I am not inclined to deal with triumph and their warrenty. When i called the company to ask for info about it i never got a return call. So their motto "go yur own way " i get. fireitup
