I have an '02 Road King with Screaming Eagle exhaust pipes. One is bad so I have to replace the pair. Which pipes would be the best ones to use? Stock pipes are too quiet and straight pipes are too loud. Any help would be appreciated.

I put the Vance & Hines Ovals on my '04 RK with a Ness Big Sucker and Power Commander. I like the sound and the performance. The neighbors look, but haven't complaned yet.

It is hard to go wrong with Vance and Hines. I have seen many of these pipes on different bikes and they look and sound good. Even improve performance when combined with a big breather and a remap or jet job. There may be better pipes out there, but V&N gives you a lot of bang for your buck!

You can't go wrong with the V&H slipons. One other little company that makes an even better sounding pair of slip ons, but doesn't get much press is the KhromeWerks HP+ slipons. They are great pipes and I had a set that I loved the sound of...until I switched to a V&H 2 into 1 ProPipe HS last winter.

If heat off the crossover pipe is getting to you too, you should consider the Vance and Hines true dual headers too. They will take just about any aftermarket slip on unlike many of the competitors true duals. CD reviewed them here on bike talk and they are great performers...and the elimination of the rear crossover pipe will relieve nearly all the heat on your thighs in the summer.

If you aren't one of the "if its too loud, you're too old" crowd, you will likely end up wanting to repack your baffles eventually. As most pipes blow the fiberglass out around 1000 miles. What I've heard is a great alternative baffle material is steel wool wadding. Tear a hole in the middle and slip it over your baffle. It will not burn and blow out like the fiberglass. I'm going to put a touch into the baffle of my ProPipe this winter as it has gotten very loud.
