00 wildglide here,Just came back from Reno(street vibrations). The event was the usual with the exception of my first ride/interuption with Reno's finest in my mirror.I just pulled out of Circus,Circus's garage & guess who was right there to follow.I give my registration & license as asked...Then asked what I did.He says:NO EYE PROTECTION!,Then continued to complete my welcome donation to the wonderful biggest, little city. The thing that kills me is not the $80.00;But,the person from the department saying that this is a 2 point violation. What the hell is this?.Anyway thanks for hearing my rant & when ever you ride at night(or day)keep them specticles on.00 wildglide.

I never heard of that.
Is this something the Reno police cooked up or is this a new law in effect with the State.
Hey, SK you live in Nevada any comment?

Massachusetts only requires one mirror. DOT helmet is required although I've never had them bust me for my scull cap. Handlebars are supposed to be no more than 13" above the seat height but never saw anyone gigged for apes. Glasses are a requirement unless you have a full face helmet or windshield. They seem to like that one. I've seen people get nailed for that and they really seem to hate loud pipes the last couple of seasons too. Directionals are required unless the bike was not so equipped, as in an oldie.

I have never heard of anyone in Oregon getting a ticket for no eye protection and believe me there are plenty of riders here that don't wear eye protection with or without a windshield.

I know the law requires eye protection here in Nevada. Either I'm wearing a full-face helmet..which automatically give me eye protection..or I'm wearing my glasses just to be able to see when I wear my half-shell around town in the heat. Never heard of anyone getting a ticket for it though. Guess the metro up in Reno decided there were too many for the pickings up there and there was some financing to be added to the budget.

I see hoards of people on small motorscooters here in Las Vegas riding illegally without a helmet, i.e., the law says the bike can't be over 1 hp, or 50cc in order to ride without a helmet..which means riding on the side of the road in what essentially is the bicycle lane. When I asked a cop about it..he says he can't tell the difference in the legal or non-legal small bikes. I said..when a scooter is zipping 50mph down Charleston Blvd in the fast lane (it's a 6 lane road)..it ain't no 1 hp engine. Those little things are 250-500cc scooters that can do 70 mph.

I don't understand 2 points for eye protection. That's equal to a moving violation and I don't see where that's any different than driving without your seatbelt hooked up in a auto. If that's the case..take an online traffic school class (run by the state of Nevada) so it won't show up on your record.

I wear glasses or it's danged hard to see where I'm goin', so I guess I'd be immune to that one. Does sound more like a revenue enhancer than anything else.

I remember some MAJOR size bugs hitting me in the face shield/glasses in the past. I wouldn't wanna ride without eye protection anyway. But, I'm a believer in letting the rider decide and Darwinism. Seat belt laws peeve me, too. I often don't wear one just for spite, but mostly cause the one in my van cuts my neck, real pain in the neck.

I rode through a hive of migrating bees the other day, four or five of 'em hitting the shield on my full face and a pack bouncing off my jacket. I knew they were bees cause one of 'em got me on the ear lobe. DANGIT!!!!!! It was a warm morning and I had my warm weather armor on. Good thing, eh? There are Africanized bees down here, so I wasn't pulling over! I ran on down the road pulling at my ear and cussing a lot. Little begger came out from under there with the wind blast. I guess he bounced off my shoulder to get up under there, not sure. There was a pack of 'em. At least I know I took out a bunch of 'em, little splats all over my full face helmet and jacket. Wonder I didn't get hit more than I did, but I know I would have without the gear on. Wonder what a bee sting in the eyeball would do?

Not to step on anybodys toes, but I can't seem to see an advantage not wearing glasses gives ya. If water in the eyes from going down the road, getting hit in the eyes with anything in the air (insects, dirt, dust, etc) turn you on, go for it. But I only have two eyes. I don't want to lose any of them. And how does a bee sting in the eye feel? Don't rightly know, but don't wanna find out either. :)

You have points to ponder on, but my take on it is not the fact that the glasses are necessary, but rather the ENFORCEMENT factor. I agree that it's foolish to not have eye protection on when riding...it's just being forced to do something that makes a bit of sour grapes of the situation.

Heck, I don't like riding without a helmet at speed, much less glasses. I test rode a XLS sportster out in Laughlin the year they came out. Didn't have my helmet with me so I borrowed one of their beenie caps, no shield. I couldn't get over 80 mph and see where the heck I was goin' and I REALLY wanted to open that beeeoch up and see what she had. ROFL.
