Spent some time texting through facebooks with my Newphew in Afganistan this morning. He is a Green Beret and in the mountains somewhere there. As of this morning he is OK but sure worried about him. Said he has five months to go. His group has had several casualties already in the last month according to my brother. Very proud of him but also very worried.

Green berets...very cool. Not anyone can qualify. Many try but few are chosen.

    What's his speciality?

And if anyone can get safely out of a conflict its the Green Berets.

Your nephew definately has good taste in women.

More impressive is his being able to pass Green Beret muster. Something like 200 start out and less then 20 make it..or something like that.

He is a very determined young man and so is his brother. His brother worked himself up through the ranks and is a warrant officer flying choppers off an aircraft carrier. He is the one on the far right.

I work at a VAMC. You would be surprised how many vets try to pose as a Special Forces, Delta, etc...and in actuality they were GD'ed after 6 months. In other words were in long enough to figure out what was cool and now try to play people with a lie that most cannot verify or deny. That lasts as long as it takes to run into a real deal SF,Delta etc...

I can spot a poser from a real SF,delta, etc. The real deals aren't running their mouths.

I remember about 10+ years ago I was a line cook at a popular restaurant. I was older then most who worked there. One of the dish dogs was carrying around a military back pack with an SF patch on it. I asked him what the deal was and he said he's always wanted to be an SF. In fact had joined the Army but washed out, couldn't cut basic. I explained how he shouldn't misrepresent the SF. He wasn't quite telling people he wasn't SF and he wasn't quite telling everyone he washed out of basic either. He doesn't have the patch anymore either. He was telling everyone he was in the Army(not a lie) and that this was a special Forces patch(not a lie). What an ahole.
