Facemasks

Hey Guys,

I got a question for anybody who rides in the cold.....it's starting to get chilly here and I will continue to ride as long as I can but I refuse to wear my full face helmet. Does anybody have a facemask that they wear?? I am looking at neoprene, leather, etc and have no idea what will be warmer, more comfortable, etc. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have seen half masks, full masks, and don't know anything about them. Of course I will be getting one with the skull face on it.... Please offer any/all suggestions.

I got a full face neoprene from J&P Cycles last fall. I rode with it on in 30 degree weather at 55mph and my face did not get cold at all.Took a half hour for my knuckles to unthaw when I stopped but my face was warm .

If you are not stuck on a design and all black is ok they some good stuff at ski shops. I down hill and cross country ski alot so I have that stuff. I have a mask that is a complete pull over the head style with a neoprene front and a lighter material for the rest of it. I wear this under my half helmet and I do not get cold on my face or neck. My problem is my feet I froze them 4 years ago when I was out at night training for a race. At 45 deg. my feet get cold.
I am still looking for a cure for that.

Hey Voodoo, I have one of the neoprene ones with the skull on it and it works real well. I've worn it at 25 and your face won't get cold. Everything else is froze up though.

Only problem I have is that my glasses would fog over at lights. Would clear up after a little while when the light turned green and was going down the road....

I would go with the neoprene. Leather that doesn't have some type of lining in it, like your skin, will be the same temp as the air flowing over it.

:roflmao: :roflmao: Probably the best place to wear it! (as long as I didn't mind spending the night at my county sponsored Holiday inn if you catch my drift!)

I kinda thought that about the leather Ringo, plus the fact some of them are long and when tucked into my jacket wouldn't allow for easy head turning. As usual, all are great suggestions and I appreciate them. If anybody else has any ideas, please let me know.

Yeah FLHT, I have a really nice full facer that the visor comes up as well as the chin, but ever since wearing a half shell, I feel the visibilty and the freedom of movement for periferal vision are compromised with my FF. JMO What about wearing glasses with the mask? I wear a pair of Wiley-X shades with the foam piece that seals around the eyes, I guess they will fog when stopped while wearing the mask?? Winter sucks......

I would imagine neoprene is warmer. Another option is a Buff. With it getting cold in the UK I just bought on of the so called Arctic Buff's. These do not cover as much face but are still pretty effective.

What I found to be the best to keep my feet warm is those small packets that you open and shake them and they generate heat. I will put one in ech boot under my toes and it keeps the fwet warm. I use those for riding on the days it is below 45 deg. I also use them all winter long when I am running or cross country skiiing. I can go out and do those things down to -25 deg. , anything colder than that and I will stay inside.

My cold weather gear is one of the neoprene masks, but I have the one with the clown face.... and I also have a neck thing made by schampa or something.. I put the next thing on first, then put on the mask, then put on my helmet, and pull the neck thing up over the helmet strap and bottom of the mask... works great, but like all the other posts.. does not do much for the numb fingers.

Nope I sure haven't.....Are you really telling me it gets cold there cuz I really have no idea whatsoever....I've been around the country some but never to Az.

You guys are still posting some good ideas. I've heard of heated pants and jackets, as well as gloves, but I can't afford to shell out 800 bucks or so for that...plus the fact I took my scoot out the other day (50 degrees) and the bike ran like sh*t. 2nd and 3rd gear WOT and I felt like I could've run faster than it. I dunno, I thought I had the carb dialed in pretty well after installing Ken's carb kit, it actually ran better, until last Sunday. Oh well, I'm still up for anything that'll keep me warm so I can ride longer into the winter months.
