Fat Bob whining noise

I have recently purchased a Fat Bob. Running beautifully. However, there is a whining noise coming from either the Belt drive or Gear box. (Funny enough, I have only started noticing the noise after it was pointed out to me)
Its not the brakes (Tried that)
Its not when the bike is in gear (makes no difference in or out of gear)
If going downhill, you select neutral and turn off the engine - whine still there and varies with speed.
Any idea's (Iv'e done 2000 kms on the new bike)

could be drive belt tension......too tight tends to make it whine. Does it get louder after the bike is hot?

No it is there even when bike is cold. i spoke to our HD agent (Engineer took the bike for a ride) and he said that it is just the "meshing of the gears" but although i do not think it is a big problem I believe that it is not normal and need a better explanation.
I too, believe that it is probably belt tension or alignment but that is not the feedback that i have recieved from HD.
What do you think...?

the belt will whine cold if too tight, but it generally will get louder when the bike is warm or after it has been ridden hard. If your ears are good and your pipes are stock, you may also just be hearing the primary chain. If the "Engineer" says it's normal, I'd ride it without concern. Especially cause it sounds like your bike is still under warranty. My bikes make lots of different noises, it's when a new one starts up that concerns me. Many new Harley riders don't start hearing all the subtle engine noises that Harley engines make until they have rode a coupla thousand miles and then the more they listen, the more they hear......i.e. the valve train noise that sounds like a sewing machine. One of the reasons many invest in louder pipes.

I think you are correct, I believe it may actually be the belt that is perhaps a bit tight so will give it a blast next time I get to ride it.

they used to reccomend a lube that you put a little on the edge of the belt where it touches the lip on the pulleys. i just can't remember the name. it stop the squek.

Ok will try, I believe just a bit of soap wiped across the side of the belt may do the trick.

Been for a long ride and noise is not as bad - recon that it is the belt drive - btks for all the advice..

belt lube

On my sons 07 Duece he had the same or close to same noise, we tried to run it down for over a year. started after 1k checkup and did it till his 5k checkup, at that time he talked to HDwrench and he said some bikes with that buzzing viberating noise comes from the belt to hub causing a freq.. we knew it was speed related as the noise did change in pitch as speed changed and thought it was the belt rubbing the lower chain guard.
anyway the HD wrench give my son a small container of a belt lube that is to put only on the edge of the belt not the teeth. and said to use very little on belt,
As soon as he put on we went for a ride and it got rid of the noise 100%,,,,,
it has lasted all this summer but I dont know what its called but your HD service dept will know, or they should.

Not all do it as my 07 FLSTC does not....

that sounds great, will ctc my local harley guys and try get some.
