I'm trying to mount a stock heritage seat on my 01 heritage with the passenger seat. i have the tab from harley that they clip into a steel fender so the passenger seat can be secured to the fender.

i guess i'm looking to see has anyone else done this or heard of anyone and how they did it. my fiberglass fender is alittle thicker than a steel stock one.

    thanks in advance

    Mitch

Hey there Mitch, I have just put some glass fenders on my bike, but I have ran into the opposite issue. With mine, I did not consider using the cool little threaded mount that comes stock. So when it came time to mount my seat, I had to get a bolt, drop the swing arm, and go in from the underside of the fender using a near flush mount cap screw bolt and just an acorn nut to secure my seat. I think that it works rather well. :D

that will work.........but if ya need to remove the seat every so often, maybe a nut like they use on race cars.......the name slips me right now......that mount permanently to the fender would work also......

The cool thing about coming in from the underside is that there really should be no worry of the bolt being too long and then your suspension bottoming out on it and then causing more problems that could be painful.

chuck your right , had to do it on my old shovel , but had enough room to lift the bike & let the swing arm drop without unbolting the shocks & could reach in that way

I bet you had to twist and turn in order to get in there? I guess I look at like this, If there is an issue like that, I would rather have it on the lift and drop whatever it is that I need to in order to see what it is that I need to.

I keep saying that whenever I go to the bathroom.

    :wtf: :roflmao: :roflmao:

I've run a bolt thru the underside of the fender on my '00 Sportster without taking anything apart, just jacking the bike up in front of the swingarm the let the rear tire drop down as low as possible. It wasn't fun, I assure you & when I get around to it I'll get the threaded fender insert from a H-D dealer so it'll be easier in the future 'cause I do like to be able to remove the seat easily. That bike was an 883 Standard (solo seat) new so it didn't have the insert, but the hole is there for it.

There are plenty of aftermarket options that allow you to place a stationary mounting pointin the fender, it doesn't have to be the big ol HD one.. on my softail I have one
that replaced the hd clip unit, screws up through the bottom but it's the mount not the screw that is in the fender.

You would still have the seat bolt at that point and the mount is chrome in my case so it looks better JMO than stock.

The one I got from Custom Chrome is on page 292 of the online catalong

Click Here at the bottom of the center column PN 29002 Seat Hold Down Screw Repair Kit.. It replaces the HD with a hollow seat mounting point and internal screw. Works great

Hey there HRK, you are exactly right about the mount. I bought a knurled quarter turn seat mount and I did not have the mount that actually goes into the fender for that to screw into. I tried it without it but the threaded part of the seat mount was too short.
