Got on a Road King yesterday for a test drive at Woodstock Harley Davidson. It was my first time back in the saddle after my run in with a taxi driver going the wrong way two months ago. I also tried a Heritage Softail, and felt it didn't touch the Road King or my now defunct Street Bob, After that, borrowed my friends little Honda Rebel while he road his Super Glide, and rode the misty mountains in upstate NY. it was like riding a scooter, but still fun. I'm still a bit messed up from the injuries. but it was good to feel the wind in my face again. I probably will wait until next year to buy another bike.

Just wanted to thank everyone here for their continued support while I was healing.

Sorry! I am a bit behind on the news and updates.... So sorry to hear of your incident! That really sux..hopefully, taxi was found to be in the wrong and had insurance and you will be able to recoup all your medical expenses AND buy a new bike! I know how hard it is to get back on after something like that...dropped a bike at 60 mph...almost totaled the bike and broke my wrist...I got off lucky! Liability insurance was all I had as I had no loans..... first ride after that was "stressful"....it gets better. Get well soon and keep the rubber side down!!!!

Good to hear from you AFN, it has been a while. Are you back in the states now?

The insurance settlement was fair, (12k,but I still owed 5k on my loan, so really 8k) but didn't cover custom parts, so it would take about 22k to get the equivalent today. I'll have a lawsuit against the driver, so hopefully that will bring enough to get me on the road again. Grateful it wasn't much worse, I was pinned under the wheel of the taxi, but kicked my way free and the pushed myself away from the cab. The driver didn't get out of the taxi to see if I needed help and just left me there under his car.

True, but I had no way of knowing if he would panic and try moving the car, so I pushed my way free. One more inch and my leg would have been crushed.

That is really weird that the insurance company would not let you insure your ride to cover some of the custom parts on your bike. I was able to double the amount of what my bike is worth.

I am looking for another ride too and I have also test rode a Heritage. i am looking at a lot of different rides. So far I have taken out a Super Glide and a Heritage. Decisions. :gah:

They did pay on the custom parts, just not at a rate that would actually buy them again. The bike was booked a little over 9G's and they paid 12k. Let's say new set of V&H pipes costs.. $600, add slash cut end caps ($100), add installation for $200, then $80 tax, and real cost is near $1,000. The insurance pays on what it would get on ebay, since they are now "used", around $225/$250. There is a type of insurance that does go all the way, but it's so expensive as not to make sense.

HB - Great to hear you're back in the wind, even if only for a short time - and that you're planning on a new ride next year.
May you're recovery be swift and complete!

That is still weird because I just recently had a friend that had to make a comp claim because his bike somehow fell over while it was on the bike jack. I was there when the adjuster looked at his bike and they quoted him full price for all of his parts. They asked if the parts were from Harley or if they were from a place like J&P. They even paid the full wack for labor. He told me how much he pays a year for his insurance and I thought that it was real reasonable. I now have the same insurance as he does.

    Glad you got some wind...

Heritage to me is a good ride, but it's got some vibration new ones are
a lot smoother, and it's about style, IE which one you like.

They had street glides here for $15,900 2010 over the weekend
any color you wanted as long as it was RED.. LOL

JohnnyBiker, perhaps coverage is different in NY State, that sounds like a great deal for insurance you have.
Thanks Red, good to hear from you.

Dang HB I am behind on news too. Sorry about the taxi deal. Glad you are recovering and back in the saddle even part time. Hope all goes well for you in the coming lawsuit.

I have Progressive insurance as well and when I did my front in mods on the back of that Honda van the adjuster was TOO easy. He was marking things I hadn't even given thought too. I went through this whole process of calling HD and getting price quotes for the stuff I felt I needed and a bit more figuring for a fight with insurance. Ended up in a fight with the adjuster telling him to QUIT before he totalled my Sporty. Even asked if my leathers and helmet were damaged, paid me @ $60/hr to fix my own Scoot for what the HD book said it should take to do the needed work. That covered my $250 deductible basically. My agent is a jerk, but the company as a whole was quite easy to deal with and paid off FAST, had a check before the adjuster left the driveway.
