Finally, after 6 months I went for a ride. Not a long ride. That first ride is always a smidge weird after that 6 month hiatus. Took the back roads and the long way about.

Went to the dealership to get some syn3 and while there looked around, particularly at the Fat Boy Low. I'm only 5'7 and that Ultra is becoming more of a beast every year. I sat on it and really liked how bent my knees were compared to being on the Ultra. I also noticed That the Ultra and Ultra Limited are starting to have a naugahyde flap covering the humongeous wad of exposed wiring harness on the back fender. They need to do that to all of them ASAP. The exposed wiring harness is a deal breaker in my opinion. Go see and tell me what you think.

I'll have to take a look at the wiring harness when I stop by the dealership again. I didn't notice last time but maybe they had covered it.

Why couldn't they have found a more inconspicuous location other than the back of the rear fender?

Nice to hear roads are clearing up in New England area. Dodging potholes up here until roadcrews get up and at it.

Glad you got to ride. Nice thing about this area...can't ride every week, but usually every month of the year. Raining today, but last weekend unbelievably nice. 80* on Sunday, warm for WNC. Rode up to Mt Pisgah, just shy of 6,000 ft in short sleeves...

Roads here are still rutted and gutted and no pothole fillers in sight as yet either. CAn't imagine when they plan to get a start because once school lets out this area is a magnet for vacationers and construction makes it worse. Its a parking lot between Laconia and North Conway. Thats about a 50+ mile stretch of nobody going nowhere anytime soon. And thats just one of the more popular roads.

On my way to NC a couple weeks ago and once I got past DC bikes were everywhere. Tried not to get jealous. Hardly see bikes on the NJTPK,Baltimore or DC on the interstate.

Asheville rocks..my favorite place in all USA. Go there often and will be there sometime before the year is up. The geographic diversity of the great state of North Carolina is epic..just too many illegal and undocumented aliens.

I've been one of those damn tourists more than once, wife likes North Conway for shopping once in awhile, have not made it to Laconia yet. Did stop in Concord for an excellent lunch once at a basement restaurant/pub in the downtown and if I remember right we visited a museum for the teacher that died on the shuttle explosion who was from the area. N.H. is a beautiful state from what I saw. Even the state troopers we met were nice. Can't wait to take the bike down sometime.

New Hampshire and Vermont combine for some prettyscenic riding if you hit it right and know some of the more obscure roads, especially during foliage. I find the riding best the month before school lets out and the 2 month after school lets back in. Cool, blue skies and rides unclogged with summer traffic. Got make sure you get up on the Mt Washington Auto Road:

Can relate about the big touring rig being a bit of a handful. I'm 5'8'' and ride a limited. I had the bike lowered front and rear..makes a huge difference. My wife wasn't fond of the stock seat so we went with a mustang touring seat which sits you a little closer to the controls. I went with the progressive 944's for the rear. It really helps the bike's two up handling. I wouldn't be riding an ultra otherwise. If I was riding solo..most of the time I'd be on the old FXRS.
