FLHT trouble

    Help I can't seem to get the fairing apart I have been told that the front half will come off, (I bought an after market cd player and want to install it). can some one please give me some instructional help, Please.

    OK for the normal advice, Get the SM from the dealer, about $40 and the best money you can spend, it will show you all the connections, how to assemble/dissasemble, where the "hidden" connectors are, all that fun stuff, it will pay for it'self in one job.

    There are 7 screws you need to remove. They are all Torx headed screws. The first two screws are on the backside of the fairing(facing the rider), tucked under the speakers and behind the clutch and brake levers. The next two are gotten to from the backside under the fairing (beside the neck). You must **** the handlebars all the way over one way to see and remove this screw. Then **** them the other way and remove the other side. Remove the three screws that hold the windshield in place (right across the front, top of the fairing) last. The fairing will fall forward if you don't remove these last. You have to jimmy the fairing a little to get it over the running lights. Be careful, there are a couple wires attached to the headlight.

    Just an idea, I placed a power antennae inside the faiing so it's hidden from view

    CD player?

    What kind of CD player and speakers did you get for it? Are you using the Retro-radio setup?

    I actually have an FLHTC. I have left the radio stock but just replaced the speakers with some new Polk Audio's. I ran into a guy who actually had the stock unit, took it to is local car stereo place and they rewired the Harley hand controls to contol a Sony XM radio unit for a couple hundred bucks.

    I believe I will probably just add an ipod, or similar.

    There are two ways to do this that I know of....one is the biketronics retro radio kit...which only works with select sony decks...and the PAC Swix infrared learning remote method...which is what I used. The biketronics kit though cost about a hundred dollars more...but it is strictly plug and play...direct plug in to stock wiring harness...where the Swix requires some cutting and soldering. If I'd know of biketronics before I did mine, you can bet I would have gone that route...its soooo easy. :D
