A reader at Harley Performance who owns a 2010 FLHX asked what other Street Glide owners have done to upgrade the harsh stock shocks.

Being a Street Glide rider myself (2008) I'm curious as well what other FLHX riders have upgraded their shocks to. I believe the harsh ride could be attributed to the stiffened and shorter springs in the stock shocks but I'm sure there are alternatives (Progressive is the first that comes to mind).

If you have a FLHX and have upgraded please chime in.

sure glad you posted this info , I was thinking of getting a stock set from the street glide for my E glide , just for when stoped at a light or stop sign I don't want to mess up the ride feeling

Everyone seems to have varying experiences with the Street Glide suspension. For me personally I don't think it's that bad but then again I prefer a more solid ride. I've also noticed that the shocks have a break in period where they are very rigid for the first few thousand miles... either that or you just get used to them. Experiences also differ depending on the model year. I have the 2008 while some who have the newer models say that the ride can get quite rough, so I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the shocks themselves or the revised frame. I'm no expert with these shocks but it's possible that the factory used a shorter/stiffer spring but didn't make any change to the internals, resulting in reduced travel and dampening.
