I have an 2003 Road King that I am going to put some of Ken's parts in , including his new float needle. Do I need to check float level after I put needle in & if so what is procedure for this.

    Thanks

my manual is in the shop, but i found this and it is good advise...

    Carb - Float Adjustment:

When adjusting the carb float, the body of the carb should be held at an angle (15 - 20 degrees) making a wedge of wood at 18 degrees (the center of the angle) and setting the carb throat (the side that goes into the maifold) on the wedge of wood and then measuring the float setting (the distance from the "bottom" of the float to the edge of the float bowl mounting flange/base) which should be between 0.413 - 0.453 inches (10.49 - 11.51mm) [7/16" = 0.4375] - great idea!

I made the wood block to fit the angle the carb should be tilted to (not pictured - mine turned out to be a tad over 18 degrees - within specs) and then I took an old HOG Card (think old credit card) and cut a 7/16" tab out of it to use as a gage.

Keep in mind that: a LOW float level will lean out all the carb circuits, and a HIGH float level will richen all the circuits. So set your float level before setting up the carb.

    hope this helps......

I did the carb jetting with Kens kit and I don't believe you have to adjust the float unless you messed with it.

never had one stick, but try some small, thin needle nose and push/pull out. be carefull not to bend the ears. if you do you can bend them back, but they are a little fragile.....good luck and let us know!

Got the float out & installed new needle.Had to reset float level.
This carb appears to have the 'DynoJet stuff ' in it so I am going back with Ken's parts.
The hole in slide has been drilled out, hope that does not create a problem.
Thinking about trying the Dakota Kid Pedastel, any comments ?
    Thanks
    Jack

using the drilled slide will probably give you tuning problems....before ya start adding to your carb, get the problems worked out first. the more ya add before getting it correct, the more problems you will encounter. once tuned, then start adding stuff, you will know if you spent your money wisely or not...........

If ya notice flutter in your throttle at speed it probably is the slide trying to adjust - just put a new one in with the stock spring and that should stop the problem.
The dakota kid pedestal is a good deal and can be improved on by getting a V-ductor and putting it in with it.
The float pin needle should come out fairly easlily - but some of them have a siries of gouges on one end and will only come out in one direction. Support of the "ears" is a must as they will break if hit to hard.
    Hope this helps a little.:)
