After paying $22 (that's with shipping) for a piece of 5/8" thick foam 7" in diameter for my air cleaner, I'm wondering if the only difference between that foam and any other foam is the price. I compared the expensive foam with a piece I had laying around the house that was used as packaging material and they seemed to be the same. They even passed the same amount of air.
Is there really any difference to justify the high cost? I'm thinking I got taken to the cleaners on this one.:gah:

Very happy with my K&N replacement for my SE Ventilator. Use oil very sparingly.

    Oil is old
They have new ones that you use cleaner and wash and let dry
That does as good a job

Harley SE filters are fiberglass, wash & dry and put back in, No oil required. My bike came with one. SUPPOSEDLY, the SE one passes more air than the K&N. That's the rumor rounning around. (Now we can start a whole new :fight: over that one.)

Yeah, but my H-D element developed holes so changed to K&N replacement.'Just wash it and skip the oil,Same as with thier auto filters. Cleans air well enough without the oil, passes more air.

Don't tell anybody but HD sells new filters to replace them.
And they sell the wash to wash the filters.
You ain't suppose to use high pressure water on any of them.

    Man Please !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:witsend:

A lot of hot air around here, too! My air cleaner is the old knucklehead design - you have to put a circular piece of foam in it. You're supposed to spray or squeeze a little oil in it. I just use plain sae 30 and work it in with my fingers until the thing is lightly saturated. My first filter got a couple small holes burned thru it - but that was before I got the carb tuned up.
I'm just thinking of using regular packing foam next time I need to replace it - $22 is a ridiculous amount of money for a piece of foam . . .
