forks and frames

I have inherited a 72 electroglide (FLH) I think. Basket case. I want to change the front end to a dyna wide glide type. I don't like the large forks and 16 in. tire. What type of stock or aftermarket forks will fit on this without screwing up the geometry or altering the frame ?

What fits what...

Any front end will "fit" you can go with a stock set of forks from a super glide and get a custom narrowed set of triple clamps. You can find a stock front end like you're talking about or you can buy a new after market ...they will all work OK and as long as you don't go ridiculous in length or start getting into raked triple trees etc the handling will be fine as well. And don't forget that the front end you don't want is trading material...
As to the 16 inch front wheel...you can keep the front end thats on it and change wheels...just make sure that you either A) buy good name brand equipment if new or if you are buyin used (scuse me I am showing my age...previously owned) parts you either know the individual or trust the shop. If previously owned its a good idea to drain them, replace all the seals and all that while you are into it. Let us know how the basket comes out.

Check the Direct Parts website out. They have complete front ends. Sometimes tends to be cheaper to buy the complete front end in a kit rather than 'piece- part".

I Agree, Just Look At The Parts, See What You Like. Then Ask A Tech. Make Sure About The Front Wheel Spacers. If It Comes With Or Separate.

If you get a front end KIT, it'll come with all needed to get it rolling.

Thank all of you for your advice. If I just went with a 21 in. tire on original forks, what about the vertical clearance as far as the travel the forks usually allow. Wouldn't that be compromised? By-the-by, I now have it in my shop on a lift with all 10-12 parts baskets ready to organize. The journey begins.

Update on my scooter project

Well, a lot has happened since my last post. I happened to meet a shop owner who had just purchased an '84 shovelhead with the exact setup I wanted. He wanted to restore his to original. To make it short, I traded with him and then went further to include my skins that were newly painted for the type of fenders and tank I wanted. He asked me to leave my bike over at his shop and the offered invaluable advice and help on building it. I have worked on it one day per week since late Feb. It is now complete except for wiring that will be done this weekend. Can't wait to hear it roar!
