Here are some pics of my recent trip to Fort Stevens at Astoria Oregon.
There i the wreck of the English sailing ship the Peter Iredale that ran aground in 1906 during a bad storm.
Fort Stevens was used during WWII and yes it was attacked by the Japs in WWII. They fired 17 cannon shells at the fort and young boy was killed. This is the only place in the Continental US that was ever attacked by a foreign country. Its a big place with lots of old gun emplacement areas with the old powder rooms, magazine rooms. Many of the old ring gears for the gun mounts are rusted out (ocean air). Lots to do ad see, we spent 2 days looking around and there is a really cool museum there. More picture to follow.

We had a good time but having to take the wifes cats in the motorhome with us is as bad as having a couple young kids. Other one is under her seat hidding her face.
Also I took a walk on a old trail through the woods where I found where a big windstorm had come through and snapped off the trees.

Fort stuff and the wreck is pretty interesting
They still have those gun emplacements in San Fran
in golden gate park as well, no guns in them.

BTW you might want to lift that big
sucker up a bit, it's gonna hit the wall..!

BTW I thought that the only place
we were attacked was in LA when the Japs
attacked Belushi and knocked that Ferris wheel into the
    ocean...

No Tornado, they just get some real high wind and rain storms during the winter. I remember one year when I was in my twenties me my brother and our mother went Salmon fishing on a 20 foot trawler. Crossing the bar out of Astoria going out was a bit hairy but then a storm blew in before we got back. I can remember sitting in the cabin looking out the window and seeing the swells so big that you could see the water above the mast. Crossing the bar going back in was just plain scary and a Coast Guard helicopter stayed over the top of us until we cleared the mouth. Never went back out through there again, no thanks.

That's a walk in the park. We rode out two Typhoons in the south china sea's. The bow would go under water past the two forward gun mounts and the screw would come out of the water and we could hear it spinning. Nobody stepped a foot outside or you would never be found.
