Frame title

    im thinking of buying a new frame but i dont know how much of a pain it is to get a title on it so any info would be great thanks ADAM

    i think the best thing to do is go to the title dept. in beautiful down town lamarque and ask the lady behind the counter!!:)
    then cross the street to have lunch at bennito's!!!!!! exellent mexician!!!!!:D

    Check your State's laws & regulations @ FindLaw - here's a link:

    It's time-consuming, but the laws/regulations vary so much from State to State that there is no one size fits all answer & you really should look it up yourself. What I do is print off a copy of the statute/regulation which applies to the situation to carry with me. Your local folks may very well know the details right off, but I've seen officials be wrong so many times I don't trust anything other than the law books.

    thank for the info guys i have a tx titled tx issued vin custom that i have pulled apart its a dyna and i want a 250 softail thats y i was asking now all i have to do is decide weather its worth the hassle or not you guys make sure to check my post on the parts i have for sale i dang near have a whole bike for sale :roflmao:

    Basically you'll need the title to the softail frame and the motor and trans or MSO (Manuf Statement of Origin)

    Then take them to your DMV and apply for a registration.

    Your motor has a vin or SN and MSO, the frame will have an MSO, probably you'll be assigned a State issued VIN from TX and that will tie all the MSO numbers to that VIN.

    It all depends on the people behind the counter and the rules in your state.

    I would check it all out first to get your ducks in a row or you could have a bike completed and ready to ride only to find you'll have several weeks or months of paperwork to do.

    Also insurance is another issue. Depends on how it's titled.

    If you got lucky you could title it as an HD Softail, and use MSO's for the motor and trans.

    Tank, fenders, forks, seat, oil tank all that won't matter as they are not vin coded, just the important bits.

    Do it right because at some bike events they have stolen bike leo groups that wander through parked bikes looking for stolen bikes, they might find multiple vins on the bike and it would go for a little ride in a truck and you get to explain it to da judge then pay the tow fees.

    You'll want to carry copies of the TX VIN registration with the MSO forms for the other bits.

    One of the reasons I say check the statutes/regulations yourself is that I looked 'em up for a guy in another State a few years ago & it wasn't the DMV which issued titles, dealt with "reconstructed vehicles", etc., it was his State's taxation division.

    And what's called a "reconstructed vehicle" in one State is called a "salvage vehicle" in another. Also, inspection regulations can vary from county to country in the same State (they do here). It all gets really confusing, public officials are not allowed to give legal advice & lawyers are really expensive - so I look it up myself.
