Do any of you know about a Dobecks TFI unit? Adjusting the TFI controller It's supposed to allow you to adjust fuel injection much like you would a carburetor. I'm not much good with computers and know nothing at all about power modules and maps so this looks like it might allow me to change the lean condition I think I'm experiencing. Any thoughts.

They're not a bad unit and they'll do like they say,you can fatten up your fuel mixture to get rid of lean spots and a little heat...
I used the Screamin' Chicken Race Fueler for a little while....very similar to the TFI but 1 extra pot...it worked OK....
Another option for the computer illiterate, like me;) was a Fuel Moto PCIII all you have to do is tell them what mods you have done to your bike and what your bike is (air cleaner, pipes, cams head work) and your elevation and they'll send you the tuner pre programed for your bike....it's just plug and play....easier than the TFI unit...they give an extra year warranty(2yrs) and free map upgrades if you change anything on the bike
I got the Fuel Moto EFI Tuner and am very satisfied with it and their support is second to none....:D

Just wait on the ifone 5 plug it in and your
bike will run better, take text messages through the radio
and dial up dinner for ya on the way home....

TFO, is a nice device and is good for the older
EFI systems, it's limited in design, as it's premise is
you are always lean at all points, and that the timing is
correct for the bike as set at the factory.

This isn't always so, your lean spot could be
a timing issue, you could be rich in spots that
    need to be leaned.

If you are going to address this at a minimum get
a Power Commander from Jamie, at Fuel Moto, it will
be mapped for your bike and will work all the things
you want worked, RPM limit can be increased to 6000
map can be customized to your needs, add a cam and
pipes and filter and you can tweak it or get a custom dyno
    tune.

Better is a TTS Mastertune does the same but changes
the data in the map in the ECU, no add ons and it has
self tuning abilities, or again, custom map

JMO go with a device that will give you a lot
    more options and ability...

I have a PC-III and you should keep in mind that the canned PC-III maps are only a starting point...No two bikes will run the same even if they are the same year and have the same components...The bike will run pretty well with the canned map but bring it to a good tunner and you will notice the difference...

And that's the problem. I don't know any tuners in this hobunk area. That's why I thought the Dobecks might be the answer for someone that lives in the sticks.

There is a difference with Fuelmoto.com maps as opposed to the "canned" maps; Fuelmoto IS A TUNER and their maps are from their inventory of tried and true maps of many different configured bikes. Of course fine tuning is better, but they get it damn close to where I ain't gonna allow a tuner to redline my bike 37 times to git er dun.

Jamie at Fuelmoto does come pretty close...I have only seen 5 or so respected tuners actually tune a Harley and saw no redlining...I should have asked asked but my guess is max power and torque are reached well before readline...The curves usually cross around 5300 - 5500 rpm's...There use to be a site with all this sort of data on it...It may have been Fred Eno aka Dr. Dyno...Below is his reasoning...He did a great job on my WideGlide back in 99..

On Harley-Davidsons, Fred will make a series of runs, the first up to 4500 rpm. Then, he’ll take the engine up to 5000 and then to 5500 rpm. “If I’ve gone past the peak horsepower, there’s no sense in running it to 6000 rpm, especially if it’s a Big Twin or Twin Cam. There’s no information there,” he says. “If I ever see a run go lower than the previous run, or if it goes down below what it should be, I stop testing immediately and shut the bike off.”

Same deal with me....I did find 1 dyno operator ....he's about 400 miles away and haven't got a clue who he is or if he knows what he's doing . Fuel Moto's maps are very close to spot on.... Is it optimal ....No. Will your bike run strong and not burn up. YEP!! Unless the last 1/10 hp or lb-ft are that important to you.....the Fuel Moto custom maps are very good...

Have to admit it does sound like Fuel Moto is even easier to install than Dobecks. What to do, what to do????

GET a power commander 5 with auto tune from jamie and never touch it again no matter what you do it will tune itself . dont care what exhaust or cam you put in there . jamie will set up a base map . plug it in plug in the 02 sensor and ride it , done deal

OK guys I'm going to try this.
I have a 2003 ultra with SE air filter and unknown slip ons.
I like the performance and the sound but when I let off the throttle it backfires and pops like a gun. Would one of those fuel management things stop that backfiring or is there somthing else I should be doing?( it makes it inpossible to sneak home at night.)

Yep. But you will either need to know brand and model of the mufflers in order to order the correct map for the piggy-back module, or take the bike to a tuner to dial in the piggy-back module like a Power Commander, Fuelpak or whatever.

Check for exhaust leaks....with a free flow breather and pipes you'd be lean too...if you could post some pics of your mufflers ,someone might be able to identify them...with the TFI you can adjust fuel only, brand of pipe isn't necessary...PCIII you'd need to know what pipes to get a good base map,or you could pick a map with SE breather and a guess at a pipe and see how it runs....
