I have a 2007 Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic. The fuel gauge started reading full on my ride to work. The other gauges work fine. Does anyone know where I should start to resolve the problem?

either the gauge has an issue or the float.
since you haven't had issues i would suspect the gauge.

Try giving a sharp rap with the base of your fist to the console on the tank. My softail would do that because the float would stick every once in a while.

    Thanks, I'll rap lightly.

carry one of these and rap the side of the carb with it, it will free the stuck float.

Well, gas guages generally are a variable resistor. The resistance changes as the fuel level drops. I'd call the dealer and get the resistance specs from the dealer for full and empty, then go to an auto supply store or Snap on dealer and get a variable resistor. Find access to your sending unit, find out which wires are from your sender to your guage, unplug it and put the variable resistor in place of the sending unit. Go through the resistances in 10-15 ohm levels until you go through the info from the dealer. If the guage reads correctly each time you need a sending unit. If it does not, get a guage. Is this common on these bikes?

Why not just check the resistance to it when the tank is full and partially full. Should give you a difference in reading. I suspect it is probably the gauge.

I've seen that the floats in the tank very often 'stick'. It's not to hard to get the fuel pump and float assm. out. and address the problem. Mine was doing this and the dealer"fixed"it twice. that's when I went into it and was able to get'er done.
