Fuel in the oil help

    Hi All,

    Good site and appreciate all of the knowledge and information. I have a 94 Softail Heritage / EVO that expressed fuel in the oil. Tested compression / leakdown test and seems to be within range. However, tore down the topend. . everything looked pretty nasty. . .needed it because of the miles anyway. Went with .030 OS, rehon cylinders, etc, etc. Someone informed me that it could have been the carb that was leaking fuel into the oil. Could someone out there be kind enough to elaberate on this subject who has experienced this? Could use the help before slapping all together.

    One common cause is if you forget to close your fuel petcock valve and the carburetor float needle doesn't seat. This allows fuel to continue flowing after you turn off the engine. The gas will wash down the cylinder walls and contaminate the oil.

    Sometimes this can happen over a period of time where only a small amount of fuel overflows into the combustion chamber each time you park. Over time it can accumulate. In extreme cases it can happen all of a sudden and swamp your carnkcase.

    This is why it is always a good idea to close your fuel petcock when parked.
