I’ve owned a 2001 FXSTS since new and have been generally happy with it for 26,000 miles. One minor complaint has been the function of the stock passenger pegs, since I always seem to be scraping her boot rubber off the pipe. Floorboards from the dealership seemed ridiculously expensive at a couple hundred dollars a pair, and since 4-0 steel wool and carb cleaner are cheaper, we just lived with it. Well lo and behold, while at the J P Cycle store in Florida back in March I ran across Universal Mini Floorboard Kit, part #5500000, for the staggering price of $40 a pair. These provide a 4” by 8” floorboard that replaces the clevis-type footpegs with the ½ inch opening. They are of a very sturdy steel construction with a ribbed rubber floormat. There is a limited amount of adjustment for rider position, however they fit my rider quite well when left at the lowest angle. Installation was very simple on the belt side. I did have to grind off some metal to fit them over the stock shotgun duals, however there was no loss of strength or support and the work was invisible when they are lowered into riding position.

My rider is very pleased. She can now shift position without worrying about the pipes, and the boards make a very effective heat shield. They look good and fit the lines of the bike well. If you want to spring for an extra $20, you can get several versions that have fancier surface details, be it flames or whatever. You are still well ahead of the HD price for similar units. They are in the most recent catalogue.

I figured I’d pass this along because there’s probably someone else out there with the same issues. This seems to be a good fix at a reasonable price.
