Fxdx gear change

    help, i've got a 99 fxdx,taken out to 1700cc,5 speed box,overtake at 80mph in 5th,looking for next gear.should i change engine pulley,gearbox pulley or or final drive pulley? would speedometer read false?and how to correct if possible?

    Final drive would do it for the least amount of cash and time and unless you change tire size your speedo should be ok.
    Are you looking to drop rpm's in top gear or add them.

    what is the rpm at 80 in fifth???? if that is all the faster you can get out of it, you have other problems not associated with final drive. those need addressing first....it should pull 100mph easy.....unless ya a big ol boy with passenger..........:)

    What cams are you running ? that will pull top end down some , but not that much unless you have a all drag cams

    chucktx, thanx for your insult,ha, it pulls over 120 in top,two up,and not for short bursts either..only cruising at 80,speed limit in uk is 70 on motorway(freeway?)

    ok, didnt know where ya llived, and i thought the "80" mention was top speed. yes changing the sprocket gearing will lower rpm's.. good luck with it, let us know how ya did with it!! welcome to the forum!!!!!!:D

    soundfx just drop one or two teeth at a time to see how you'll like it if you drop to many at once you'll find it's harder to take off from a stop or more throttle to get to speed through the gears
