Well here is something that just pissed me off, but is my own fault. I was at the shop yesterday looking over the progress that has been made so far. While I was there, it was mentioned that the most likely reason why I am having to throw the reserve on early and also why the reserve does not seem to last as long is because the tank that I have on it now (which is not stock) sits at an angle backwards away from the petcock causing the gas to run to back of the tank. :banghead::witsend::rant:

Is there a tank out there that can provide a large capacity, sit level, and use the stock mounts of my bike which is a 96 Sportster 883 Hugger and will interfere with my coil??? I have looked at Paughco and there is one there that I am interested in, but it doesn't give much information about it.

    Please Help!!

I put a Paughco tank on my 2003 Sportster Hugger, their model 822. It has 4.2 gallon capacity and it leans back towards the petcock, so you get every last drop out of the tank. Here are some pictures of what it looks like painted and on the bike. I found that the fuel filter made a lot of difference on the reserve. The first one I put on only gave me 15 miles on reserve, but a different filter with a slightly taller stand tube gave me 30, and I get 150 out of a full tank, including reserve, mainly because of the windshield and I've converted it to a 1200.

Thanks for the information. I was looking at PN 840 actually because I want the tank to be low profile, my bike is completely customized. Did you buy the tank with everything in it or did you get the one that you could pick the peices and put it together yourself???

I stand corrected, mine was the 822C, and it comes as only a bare tank, and will need body work before you can paint it. You pick the petcock, fittings and cap. I bought the cap from Paughco, and used the stock mounting hardware and petcock. I had a friend paint it, and I did the work myself. The only issue was the vent tube, the old tank needed it, but there's no vent on the new tank so I just plugged it off in case I ever want to put the old tank back on.

I was just looking at their page, they now have a tank for a screw in cap and uses the vent, the 822CS. Maybe I should have waited! lol

Can you move the petcock closer to the rear of the tank?
Drill a hole, weld in a bung, plug the original bung.
If those fools on American Choppers can do it on a painted tank and not hurt the paint so can you.

I think that this would be a better solution other than that I will have that eye sore of the original bung. I would probably prefer if it was cut off and plugged with it being freshly painted.
