As bguillory66 and others have mentioned in other threads "my ars hurts". I rode a lot more miles in a short period of time than I ever have in my life during Sturgis week (4000 miles, 8 days). It was mind over ars the whole way and to be honest for a few weeks after the trip too.

I have a nice mustang seat butt it aint as soft as they say or at least it aint working for me on the long long trips. I am thinking about installing a gel seat inside the mustang seat and I am thinking about doing it myself.

The rivets that hold the seat cover on don't seem to be a problem taking off and re-riveting, and cutting out the foam to make room for the gel insert shouldn't be too hard either. Butt, I am worried about what kind of gel seat to install and which is the best quality.

I found this on ebay. It's made my Conformax. Its a motorcycle seat gel pad 1 inch thick. Has anyone ever tried this brand or know of a better brand? I would like to get some info before I start taking my $400 seat apart.

    Thanks in advance all,

Hmmm. It looks like a green brake pad! I have been in touch with Mean City Cycles that was mentioned by HotRoadKing in that Thread you're talking about. They seem very reasonable and have a Gel or a memory foam or both options for your seat. They can do a lot, whatever our hearts desire it seems. I'm looking to send my seat in soon. And everytime HotRoadKing suggests a shop, I spend the money! Further, I haven't been let down by his recommendations yet! You probably can have it done for less than $250 and have yerself a Tempur-Pedic seat!

yeah the picture is not that great but if you go on ebay and look up gel seats it says a lot about it.

I went to the Mean City Cycles site. A lot of good info there, thanks. I like the memory foam idea and the bag liners. Cool stuff.

I want to do this myself to save a couple hundred bucks. I do as much as I can to this bike it is part of the reason I bought it ..... jeeze 13 years ago now.

I bought the gel pad from ebay, with shipping and tax it came to $60 bucks.
Here is some of the pics of the job.
The angle grinder really helped to smooth out the roughness of the razor blade although it gets all over the place.
The pad really feels soft as hell. I'll know if it works when I get a chance to ride 6 or 800 miles in one day again and I'll let you all know.
