Anybody out there using one of these? Any thoughts? After what we have been through back here I'm seriously thinking about getting one...They plug right into the natural gas line so you don't have to think about gas, gas containers or can I get gas or any of that crap...I'm looking at a 10KW automatic on/automatic off set that will supply the basics for a few days or two weeks...

Not cheap but definately the way to go. I have a GENERAC 10,000KW gas generator and its the shiznizzy. If I knew I was living here for the rest of my life I'd spring for one of those auto propane GENERAC's like what I think you're talking about. They start about 3000$ and thats before installation.

I was looking at the Guardian Series 10KW...Prices were $2,300.00 to $2,700.00 without installation...A few other people are interested so I'm going to call a few people and see what sort of deal we can get...Got to learn a little more about these things first...

They do weekly tests runs. In a loss of electricity the switch on automatically and when power is restored they switch off. Being machines they are not fail safe, you have to understand that. They can succesfully do there weekly test run but fail in an actual emergency. Its happened.Being propane is a plus I think cmpared to gas.

Well I'm banking on my propane generator now. I've had regular gasoline for years but if you don't use them all the time the gas can start to turn to varnish. So I sold my gas and got a propane. Now I just keep a battery tender connected and wait for that big outage that I really hope never comes. I've let this thing sit for a year at a time and done a test fire to see what would happen and it's fired with a couple cranks every time. But you guys are right, when I really really need it will be the true test.

My in-laws-got a natural gas whole house generator installed after Irene. (That's when I got my 6000 watt honda gasoline generator). It starts once a month on it's own (it can be scheduled for whatever you wish). It worked flawlessly for them this past week. They were without juice for 9 days. They live in a very vulnerable area (lots of trees, more than me). A neighbor of mine has a propane generator. They have a handicapped child that requires electric 24-7. We don't have nat gas so they had to go with propane. Problem is, getting the propane delivered.

the lp gas gens. are the best in my opinion. natural gas lines do break in storms. if i was getting a whole house generator, i would ask them how much lp would it take to run it for 4 weeks. i would get a tank that would run it that long and fill it. maybe add a bit at a time until it gets full if the gas is expensive. not having electricty for a while sucks!!!

Gona get a 10KW unit which will run just about everything except the AC...This is for basic emergency power (heat, lights, FIOS, washer/dryer, sump pumps & microwave)...Looked a three contractors and prices ranged from $6,680.00 to $6,100.00 which includes just about everything...The lowest priced contractor is about 3 miles away, is known by the town inspectors and he is willing to pick up the cost of the permits unlike the others...Should have it in about 3 months...They can't make them fast enough...
