NHTSA decided to fund the program despite being asked by Congress not to fund the program until the merits were explained. In a letter sent by James Sensenbrenner, along with ten other Members of the House of Representatives last month, Sensenbrenner and his colleagues specifically asked NHTSA to respond to the letter before funding the program, they did not. Read the letter HERE

The recipient of the money for the demo project was the Georgia Department of Public Safety, which oversees the day-to-day operation of the Georgia State Patrol. The Georgia State Patrol will conduct a series of roadside motorcycle safety checks in accordance with what was outlined in the Request for Applications. The amount of NHTSA funding is $70,000.00.

“Not only is this an injustice to the motorcyclists of America its a complete waste of taxpayer money.” said Jeff Hennie, Vice President of Government Relations and Public Affairs for the MRF.

The MRF will keep you informed on this issue and any actions you can take to defend your freedoms, at stake in Washington

Yeah we, ABATE of GA, been working on this since we got wind of it back when the money was appropiated...
I got this e mail from Dan too...

    February 11, 2011

The Governors Office of Highway Safety [GOHS] has requested a meeting with A.B.A.T.E. of Georgia's Legislative Director, Linda Allen and the State Director Dan Forrest.

This meeting is to discuss the concerns that A.B.A.T.E. and our membership have regarding the reported Motorcycle ONLY Safety Check Stops.

Your calls and letters are in part responsible for this meeting. Your voice is being heard in Atlanta.

Do not let up on this important issue. Keep calling and writing you Senators and Representatives. Let them know that you feel this is against all that Freedom stands for.

    Thank you

    State Director

    A.B.A.T.E. of Georgia

    Dan Forrest

Some of the Horror stories I`ve heard are appauling!!!
They`ve been known to stop Bikes on Trailers and attempt to do a "safety Check"...
ABATE of GA Needs your input IF you encounter any of these "Safety Checkpoints" in GA, soas we can persue it...
Yes, there are lawsuits pending in some cases too...

there was a "Call To Action" on this very issue by ABATE and US Defenders, the responce was not great, anyone who rides on 2 wheels needs to get involved and send letters to their representatives in their home state and in Washington,
Along the same lines the Patriot Act is coming up for renewal on Feb 28, get involved send letters make a few phone calls.

Fact is there is a shortage of money for the feds
and the local/states so they are going to do whatever
    they need to increase revenue.

Red light and speeding cameras are coming,
no matter what the local voters say eventually
they will be the norm here as they are in Europe.

Buddy works for Motorola, they have one that takes
your front and rear, reads the plate, sends to a database
to see if your car is legal, stolen, license paid up, insured
    etc.

    Big brother is here.

I"m gonna remount my bike tag up under the tour pack where you can't see it
unless you are at street level... Long as it's level and horizontal it's legal...

Joke 'm if they can't take a fugk
