I am moving to Montana! Got the RIP today.....Great Falls, MT no later then 31 July....probably going to be a bit earlier...say in the early/mid of the month....10-15th ish...... Think that we are going to take a family vacation to that area over spring break to check out the area! Not a BUSINESS trip, tho wife and I may also do a SMALL bit of that, but primaraly to show our daughter (age 8) where we will be going. Wife and I lived there (not active duty military, just regular old civilian doing national guard...both army then Air Guard) back in 1997-1999.....about 2.5 years total. We like the area and are excited to see any/all changes!

Malmstrom AFB, It will be a clinic on the base. No beds, no hospital. All outpatient. Should be a different pace!

Cool. Looks like a nice posting.

Bet it will be a lot less stress than my current NHS post. Community Psych Nurse in Assertive Outreach in London UK.

Good luck on the move. It probably feels like a new lease on life. I know that you will miss the 100+ summers. Where are you ever going to get fresh tomales up there:roflmao: Seriously, take care and keep in touch. Good Luck

Spent two years (74-76) at Malmstrom. It was the best place I was ever at for fishing, hunting and riding the back country. We always had trout and venison, elk etc in the freezer. If you like to fish or hunt or just see some fantastic country you are heading in the right direction. I plan on heading that way some summer so I can fish the Missouri river again.

Clean town, with friendly people and back then it was a "base" town where the major income in tax $$ came from the base. Back then there were the missile squadrons, air rescue squadron, SAC alert KC135's and Air Defense Command EB57E's which we used to test the DEW line. If you want to have even more fun, get a used dirt bike and ride the "breaks". Just head out the back gate, turn right along the fence and you'll find some serious fun dirt bikin' within a mile or two.
From what I have read over the years the runway is decommissioned (closed) and other than the weather folks it is a missile base.

Sounds like a great duty station for you and the family. What a nice change from Iraq it will be. I've never lived there but have traveled through there on the bike. Like CD said very nice folks up there and I know you'll like it. Not a bad ride from there to Sturgis either. I'm almost envious except for the winters.

...thought of the same tune actually. Good luck on the new post. It can get a little cool there in the winter but Montana, man!!!Flathead lake..some great skiing up in Whitefish and with the long winters a person may as well find something to occupy the time..it's kinda what we do up here..

It's the old saying "you never see a Harley in front of a shrinks office" - the ride time is the same as a good session but cheaper!

Having to work in the shrinks office is an entirely different ball game. It brings a whole new meaning to the idea of jumping onto the Harley and thinking get me out of here.
