Rode down Hwy 30 with wife and a friend to Astoria. Astoria is the community or city west of the Rockies and sits on the coast. The Columbia river flows between Oregon and Washington and dumps into the pacific at Astoria. Weather was sunny low 60's no wind and the fall colors were out making it simply a beautiful day for a ride. We rode across the Astoria Bride that spans the Columbia, 6.5 miles across and its always fun crossing over the Columbia via this bridge. Round trip 286 miles today.

We have a lot of hills and mountains here Chuck, that hillside is the last part of the coast range mountains as they come down to the coast. At the top of the hill there is a really cool tower and if you feel up to it you can take the 164 spiral stairs that go up the center to the top, man what a view.

They have filmed a lot of movies in this town, remember kindergarten cop, or the goonies or short circuit that's just a few I can remember. Its a pretty cool small city of 10,000 with some great ocean fishing. Lot of great fishing for Salmon and steel head in the mouth of the river to.

That's funny :roflmao:, I think it may be you have been living in the flat lands so long. The view gives that impression, but they are not built on top each other. If you ever go there it is a really cool small town with old time wharfs and board walks along the pier that has some really cool shops. They have one of the biggest yearly crab festivals every year and our HOG chapter does a ride there each year.

Astoria area is also famous as the place where the Lewis and Clark expedition spent the winter before returning back to Saint Louis. The original fort they built (been repaired many times) Fort Clapsop is still.
