Since I don't have a credit card, I thought I would try the Greendot Visa card. You buy the card at a drugstore or some other place for $5 and load the card with a certain amount of money, up to $500. Advantage for me is that I can shop online using this card. And no credit card debt to pay off every month.

That's one way of doing it. You could also be extra safe and open a PayPal account and link it to your bank account. I've been doing that for years. But, not every on line sales accepts PayPal.

Josh you should get yourself a no fee visa, use it twice a year once on your birthday once on christmas, buy gas, a cheeseburger doesn't matter.

This will massively pump up your credit score so when time comes you can use credit, like your roof, you can borrow cheaply.

Nothing wrong with credit when it's not wrongly used.

No credit can be just as bad as bad credit. Paid all my bills cash until 1990, was 33 years old. Had to jump through hoops for a credit card to rent a car or make reservations when I got married the first time. Taught me a lesson. Credit that is, not marriage- LOL

I don't need credit at this point in my life. I'm pretty happy with the Greendot.
