Hi guys, I just put a belt drive primary on my 1983 FXE. For some reason the new clutch basket and or ring gear is causing the starter to make a grinding noise? I think maybe the new ring gear is sitting closer to the starter drive than the old one did, but I'm not really sure what is grinding. It didn't do that before.
Should I try shimming out the starter a little bit to give it more room?
    Any other ideas??
    Thanks!

Best check it out before ya put to many miles on it - might be a misaligned starter or you may have to shimm a little - look for wear on the starter gear to give ya some idea of where it's hitin at and go from there. Good luck and keep us updated on how it goes.:)

It didn't say to shim at all. I'm gonna try pulling and reinstalling the starter.
