I recently completed a California Friendship I sidecar installation to my 1981 HD FLHP, using some "generic" installation instructions. Does anyone know where I can find some Harley Davidson installation instructions, for "any" sidecar? I used the wheel lead, lean, toe in and other set up numbers in the generic instructions, but the ride is terrible. The frent end "whoble" and head shake is almost not controlable. I installed a steering damper and that helped some, but still its not usable. I am thinking that that the set up numbers may be wrong for the Harley. I need advice/help!!
    thanks for any input.
    Joe

I used to have a Velorex hack on my Goldwing years ago, I'm talking late 70's and that friendship was on the market then. That friendship you have is a used hack right? I don't think they still make em. If it is used check the wheel bearings. Check the wheel bearings on yer Harley too. Those generic settings should work BUT they can and usually are fine tuned by the owner. Trial and error is the only way. Used to be a National Sidecar Association and magazine that was a good resource but I think they are gone now. It is important to have a damper, good wheel & steering head bearings. How old is the bike? Imperitive the head bearings are good AND ADJUSTED PROPERLY. Check the owners manual for the "Fallout" test. Many owners went to "earls" type forks and flat tread tires. Also, the mounts to the bike should have the maximum distance between them possible. Both up n down and front to rear. I hope this helps. My wing worked good but i did have a slow speed wobble (below 30mph) that never went away.

Your correct, the California Sidecar company seems to be out of business. My ride is a 1981. I didn't have any of the bad ride problems before the hack installation, so I think that the problems are the result of the addition. Thanks for the suggestions. I will be checking everything out ASAP.

Doesn't meean a thing that yer bike rode ok before. A hack WILL put much more stress on yer scooter and bring out any little thing. I will also wear things faster. But they are fun and when my first kid was born it allowed us to continue to ride.
Ps. They are a blast in the snow.

Just remembered, get yer forks tuned and heavier oil in them plus a fork brace is in my opinion mandatory. A lot of torque gets induced into the, they twist like crazy.
