You have to excuse me, I've been out of the harley world since Shovelheads.
I'm going to buy a new one (or slightly used) and I'm leaning towards a Superglide.

From what I understand the motor (engine) is rubber mounted. Has anybody had problems with that?

No more so than any thing else. I don't know how long ago they started rubber mounting, but it has been a while. I wouldn't be concerned with it at all. Welcome back!

    Hi FLH59,
I'm the happy owner of an '07 Superglide (96 engine).
Happy because finally, after waiting 20 years, got a Harley under my Ass.:D
All it took was for my wife to leave home !!!:roflmao:
    But that's another story.
What I can tell you is this,
I went to the local Harley dealer "open house" event a few weeks ago
in Kenniwick, Wa. and test rode an "08 Softtail Custom (96b engine).
As I was riding away from the dealership I literally looked down to see
if I was in fact on a Harley.
The diff in vibration is incredible between the balanced and unbalanced engine.
I recently read a post on another fourm about someone having bought a
hondayamasaki , or something , and describing it as a Harley on water.
I would use that same description of the 96 vs the 96b engine !

Any advantage to picking up an 08 instead of an 07? I have my eye on a low mileage 07. The only thing that concerns me is they may have used it as a trophy instead of a bike and the seals may have been damaged.

I doubt anything is damaged in one year on the 07, if you are paying cash price should be lower,

Wasn't a lot of changes for 08 unless you got a bagger with bigger fuel tank, brembo brakes, abs option, throttle by wire (no cables)
