My HD 2004 FLHT Fuel injected has blown the accessory 15 amps. fuse once last year; twice this year. The fuse control the speedometer & tach, and flashers. As of today, it will blow the fuse seconds after it is installed.
Can anyone tell me where to start looking to find the problem?

    Thank You
    Michel

i would start be unhooking each controled assy, one at a time. if the problem still exists with all assy. disconnected, the problem is in the wiring, between the fuse and the assy.
    hope this helps.

    It might be

Well ive had the same problem in the past.. and after hrs of searching for the cause.. too no avail,, I found it in a really sublime place.. I changed my grips and put on custom grips/ in the process of putting the left hand side back together i pinched and damaged some of the wires that come from your left hand control switch housing it made my headlamp go out and also my blinkers along with my tach and speedo. it kept blowing 15 amp fuses until i cut back the shrink wrap and saw the problem.. if this ever happens to you do not try elecyrical tape if there are more than one wires needing insulated your harness that runs will be too large for the switch housing to close properly and you can damage more of the wires when you tighten up the housing.. I bought the harness at HD shop for 44.00 dollars

Last year I had the same problem, It took me awhile to figure out where the short was. I finally noticed that when I turned the handle bars all the way to the right it would pop the fuse. I took the headlight assembly apart and found the short. Think back in time and see if you or the dealership has added anything after you bought the bike. Ride Safe, David.

Save your money and buy a small can of brush on electrical tape available at menards and other building centers...its like a rubberized finger nail polish or something...but you could just paint over the small nick in the wire, let it set up and carefully put the switch housings back together.

I had the same thing happen to me when I put chrome switch housings on my bike...I fixed it as described and have had no new occurences in the last three years.
