I am visiting a friend in North Carolina (fayetteville) and am looking to hire abike for acoupleof days.. The ones I have tried through the internet do not reply to my enquiries.. We will be in Wilmington for a while too so any local dealer would be useful.

Bike wise.. Fat Bob, Heritage softtail etc..

    Any suggestions..
    Thanks..

    Rental Options

Thanks for all the leads.. I had searched for rentals in the area and managed to find a few.. Unfortunately got no replies from them by e-mail so felt a bit lost on what to do besides phone them from the UK.

I will be in NC for about 2 and a half weks but will probably only need a bike for 23rd 24th as I will be out on a boa for some of the time..harley's don't swim too well. :)

I have never hired a bike before, always cars as I holiday with the family so not suure what the implications are. I see helmets and raingear are supplied so that will sort out the safety kit. There is reference to insurance but saying some is optional ... In the Uk insurance is mandatory and only really one type (fully comprehensive) that is worth taking...

The other thing is 'heavy bike proven riding skills'.. doe sthis mean that as I won't have my HD with me I need to arrive at the shop early so they can take me out on a test run? or doe they use a local test area to try you out?

Planninga ride to Myrtle beach while there!!

    Cheers

I have tried to contact these people by e-mail but getting no response.. I see they have a useful half day option which would be a good idea for the odd day I may fancy taking a ride around to see the sights...

Just can't get a reply from them..

If anyone who worksfor them is on-line, perhaps you could e-mail me directly..
    Thanks

    Fayetteville visit

I am visiting my friend and karate teacher (Bud) who happens to live there..

I am serious about the hire just waiting to finalise dates wit Bud as he is arranging other karate people to get together and I know one of them is arriving on the same day as me and stayinga few days so I can't duck out and ride until he has gone. :)

Once I have all my details sorted I can telephone them or Bud can call in and arrange it for me.

i am just used to arranging everything by e-mail.. :0.. slave of technology!

I think it's just crazy what they charge to rent a bike. What's a bike worth? $20k or so max? You can rent a cage worth approximately the same to buy it, yet it'd only cost $30-40/day versus $125-150/day. My bike insurance for full coverage isn't any more than than for my truck..what gives? While I know it ain't a bike, you can rent a sweet Mercedes for the day for the rental of a bike, and that Mercedes is worth $50-60k or so.

    hire charges

Yep, they certainly are pricey.. If I wanted one for a couple of weeks I would buy one and leave it in Fayetteville for my next visit..

Compared to car hire they are expensive.. I guess the repair work csts a lot more .. or maybe its just cashing in on the Harley thing..

Are you a member of HOG (Harley Owners Group)?

If so call HOG they have a members rental program 2 day minimum $99 a day.

Bikes are more risky than cars, less are rented, supply and demand that sets the price.

Multiple car rental companies out there to compete.

The pound is what almost 2-1 so for you $130 a day US is about 65 in pounds, so think of it that way.

Pick up the phone and call June-Aug is vacation months here, lots of people are out and about.

Tell them that you've emailed them and no response.

You may be required to take one out in the parking lot and prove you can ride, be amazed at the numb nuts on vacation here in FL that show up want to ride a harley for a day and have no license or no experience and want to take a $20K bike out for a day... yeah right LOL

    rental costs

Yep, I see your point... Anyway, the cost is not the main thing for a couple of days.. Its $1350 for the airflight so a few $100 on a bike is nothing to worry about... Could be an idea to buy one if I will be returning frequently.. something to consider while there.. :)

No problem with the test... and I appreciate how different Harley's are to ride.,.. I found teh heritage was fun getting around the little village traffic islands and the custom sportster worse due to the raked front and big wheel but hey we get used toour bikes ..

    Cheers

I say, mate, do enjoy your holiday in the colonies. Be careful in Cape Fear. I knew there were aligators, but didn't know about the boas! Mean creatures aren't they!?

Don't know anything about scoot rentals around FT. Bragg and Fayetteville but I do remember Bottoms Up, The Flaming Mug and Rick's Lounge from a long time ago:D . Are you practicing Bujinkan or another style.

    karate and bikes

    Hi drillsarge...
I originally studied Shotokan karate and eventually had too many questions so researched wider and found teachers like Vince Morris, Rick Clark who had a wider eprspective on things.. as time moved on I met Bud Morgan from fayetteville who has a solid background in a number of styles over the years .. seems to have changed as he move location. I think his dad was in the military an so was he. he did tae kwon do as well as servela systes that are not so common, also Shotokan and some Okinawan versions.. My interest is in the Seito karate and am a member of the International Seito Karate Kenkyukai whichis a small group of karateka who are interested in researching the rooots of karate and discussing interpretations.

Bud has been extremely helpful to me over the years (last 10 I guess) and I am know visiting him for the first time.. better than sharing through DVD and e-mail. :)

I have also studied some ninjitsu (yamabushi ryu) and a smattering of kobudo with various teachers.. best known is probably Simon Oliver.

My sword training started with Yamabushi ryu and then eventually landed up with kenseikai as the teacher , Dave Hart, has a vey wide syllabus that he has put together over about 35 years.. More than I need to learn but always keeps me ready to learn something new.

I must look up the venues you mentioned.. :)#
