Help for the newbie

    Hi guys, I have a 2005 widge glide that I have installed a pcIII, Vance staggered bigshots and a big sucker stage 1 breather. I am not really to the point where I want to change the card, cams or bore size (have yet to make the first payment.) But I can not seem to get a straight answer fom my dealer about the benefits/problems of changing the ignition module
    to a SE module. Will that alone change my rev limiter and with the dyno curves what is the benefit to the extra 1k rpms? These may be simple questions but I am a simple Harley rider.

    A good adjustable ignition will work with a stock bike and a heavily modified bike. The Daytona Twin Tec, Crane HI-4tc or HD's adjustable SE ignition will work greak for you with your bike and yes you can increase the RPM rev limit up a good number would be around 6000.

    More than likely with your stock cams and setup you won't need all of that as hp and tq will be falling off by then but it will help you get more than the stock ignition is giving you.

    Do you need it, no, will it help, yes, you may or may not have to change the ignition curve from a stock curve but you will be able to as you add cams etc.

    You should also look into changing the needle on the carb to a sportster needle and drilling out the air mix screw cover and adjusting the low end fuel mix. HD's arfe setup lean from the bottom to mid range, WOT is typically pretty rich as epa doesn't monitor that range.

    One more thing...

    Hmm...from my typo's you can tell I am also new to posting/typing too. Thanks so much for the information. One last thing, what is the best method to adjust the ignition curve to it's optimum with the new ignition? Again, that may be an obvious part of the adjustable ignition installation but I always like to know up front before I jump into things...Thanks again.

    typically on crane and i believe the dtt curve 5 is = to your stock curve so you start there and advance one number at a time listen for detonation, when it hits a curve where it detonates back it off one.

    You also have initial advance which determines how quickly the curve gets going. Leave it alone and rear cylinder offset and start with the main curve.

    Once that is set you can go to the initial and start at 0 1 2 etc if it detonates you can pull it back -1 etc.

    One thing at a time.

    You say you added a PCIII? If so, you have EFI not a carbed bike. The ECU handles the ignition curve and the throttle body the fuel duties. If you do have a carbureted bike, all the stuff HRK sez applies...
